I've heard Nissan is working an a color-changing paint now. Ford had one in development in the late 50s/early-60s, if I recall, but it never made production and I've often tried to find anything on it on the internet ...I often wonder what happened to that. As a kid I use to "send-away" (lol) for new car pics (and airplance pics!) every year ...and Ford talked about a experimental paint where you could just dial in your car-color to match your clothes, etc and that they'd developed a technology that looked promising ...never to be heard of again.  ...oh, well.
It always intrigued me, especially since electrochromics (if that's what they wre doing - dunno) were like star-wars back then. I've even searched in the Ford picture archives when I had access but nada. I'm guessing it just wasn't practical ...either tech or cost. |
There was one of those Mustangs at Evo last month. Blue-purple-green-black & it depended on light & angle. I tried to take a couple pictures, but they didn't do it justice.
