Orfstock 2009 Planning Thread

Now that the Hotel has been arranged, it's time to discuss what you - the attendees - would like to see at Orfstock 2009.

Here are some of the options:

For Friday Evening

Being that most of you will be driving a considerable distance, I thought it might be nice to do something at the hotel - like a Hospitality Suite, or next door at Jackson's. I know sometimes the last thing I want to do after driving for hours is to drive somewhere else. This makes it nice, so we don't have to coordinate arrival times. Once you get situated in your room, you can drop in wherever we are.

Another option is to do some sort of barbecue at our house. The drive is 7.68 miles from the hotel to our house (according to Maquest - they claim 18 minutes, but I can easily do it in 12). The upside to this is that there is plenty of room to stretch out, let kids run around, or go swimming in the pool. Well, the hotel has a pool, so that cancels out.

Yet another option is to head to Pittsburgh, drive up on to Mt. Washington. The view, shown below, is pretty cool and there are a ton of restaurants to choose from. That drive is 17.67 miles (again, according to Mapquest).


For Saturday

One option is to schedule a show at the local Ford dealership for early in the day, then drive to the house and relax together as a group. We can do food and fun. The pool will be open. Also, there is a good chance that our local community day will be that weekend and we will be close enough to the municipal park that we'll be able to enjoy the fireworks show.

Another option is to meet at the house early, then go to the dealership for an afternoon show, then back to the house for the fireworks.

Yet another option is to forgo any show at the dealership, and maybe do the photo scavenger hunt I mentioned in the initial Orfstock thread, or something similar to that.

As far as Sunday morning goes, I'll leave that open for suggestions. I'm sure some of you will want to hit the road early to get home at a decent hour. Maybe a Sunday Brunch somewhere.

Feel free to reply with your thoughts about the options above - or to offer up other ideas. My goal is to make this event as enjoyable as possible, for as many of you as I can.

8:30 am Depart for Washington Ford
9:00 am Stang Mafia Show starts
12:00 pm Show ends
12:15 pm Depart for Sonic
12:30 pm Sonic
1:15 pm Depart for Park
1:45 pm Arrive at Mingo Creek Park
photo ops at historic covered bridge
2:30 pm Depart for the compound
3:00 pm Arrive at the homestead
6:00 pm Dinner arrives
9:30 pm (or whenever it gets dark) Fireworks



Sunday – June 28
8:20 am Gathering in Hilton Garden Inn lobby
8:30 am Depart for Mt. Washington
9:00 am Photo ops at the Mt. Washington overlook
9:30 am Depart for Grand Concourse restaurant

The short drive to your house on Fri. would not be a problem for me. Getting that many cars to the big city and trying to park could be trouble. I would opt for the hotel or your place, which ever is easier on you.

Sat. am for a car show would be good with me as I am a morning person, but can do anything the group wants. Back to your place in the afternoon and evening would give us more "family" time.

Sunday brunch or breakfast would be fine as early as the group wants is OK with me.

Again don't forget to include your own opinions in this.
Also, try to come up with a cost you would like us all to pitch in for food etc.

Saturday: Car show (early riser here too), maybe a smaller photo scavenger hunt in the afternoon.
Sunday: Early break or brunch.

Go for a nice cruise to Ligonier PA. It's only about 50 miles from Pittsburgh. There you will find "Storybook Forest". I remember going there when I was kid. Even the big kids would love it.
