Default Welcome to the tuning forum...

The guys at BVM thought it would be a good idea to start a forum dedicated to tuning tech.

I will post as much data and information as I can find time for.

Feel free to post your tuning related questions and I will try to get over here every few days to answer them.

Cool Re: Welcome to the tuning forum...

Question 1.

How long have you been doing this and how many Stangs do you believe you have made tunes for?

Hi Tommy, I have been playing with stangs since I bought my first one in 99, my wife and I currently own four.

Shortly after buying my first stang I went from an internet business that was mainly based on computer parts, to one based on mustang parts.

I have been tuning since 03 when I started working for the newly formed SCT, in late 04 I quit working for SCT, went back to my own business, and bought a dyno.

The number is easily in the thousands. I have consistently been one of SCT's largest custom tuning dealers, coming in the top 10 in 05 and 06, #2 in 07, and top 5 in 08. In addition to doing a lot of dyno-tuning work locally, I also do a ton of mail order work.

Hehe, I'm not afraid of quality parts that work and perform as advertised, but if I catch a manufacturer BSing I will call them on it and back it up with the data to prove it.

Justin, I have a tune from Brenspeed. Is there anyway I can edit the tune myself or do I have to have Brenspeed make the changes for me everytime?

If the user-adjustable options are enabled you can make some small changes yourself, but they are very basic and limited.

It's not possible to pull a tune back off an SCT tuner, only put one on. You have to get the original tune file if you want to make changes, so brenspeed would have to do that.

hey Justin. Currently have a tune based solely on JLT CF CAI and FRPP SGT axlebacks (only mods done so far from stock). I am gearing myself up to complete the stage 2 and swap out the pulley to the Metco hub with 2.6 and the 90mm idler. I'm also considering electric cutout exhaust (mainly due to my needing to remain street legal but desiring to be a menace on demand). Would the electric cutouts require a separate tune?

Yeah, I know about the changes I can make on the tuner itself, and yes they are mnor changes. I was more interested to see if I can make changes to the actual tune that Brenspeed emailed me by possibly dumping the tune into something that could decode the language whereas I could make changes myself. I suppose not.

I'll throw at a little more n this one becaus I am considering th cut outs myself after a brief encounter with no mufflers. I run ARH and an off road X pipe. Would it be safe to run the same tune with just open headers or a dump after the X depending on where I put the cut outs? Would you suggest one or the other and if so why?

You will not need a different tune for the cutouts.

If you want to be able to look at the tune yourself I would recommend getting SCT's pro-racer software, you will also have to get a copy of your tune file in MTF format, which not all tuners will give out.
