Hmmmmm. How come you gotta change all the synchros and the clutch assembly then. I wonder if they have an improved flywheel on the later cars, such as 2008's, if so, why does the TSB apply to 07's thru 09's.

Is the replacement flywheel different?

Yes , it seems that when driving in stop and go traffic situations excessive heat is causing the flywheel to "grow" effectivly changing the tollerences between the clutch and the flywheel.

This will cause the clutch to chatter and not enguage properly. This is more of a problem with a dual disc type clutch than would be with a single disc clutch.
When this happens the syncros will be damanged especially the first and second gear syncros as well as the clutch itself.

An aluminum flywheel would have been better at reducing the heat build up but too expensive and more difficult to drive because it is so light so Ford must have come up with some other flywheel fix maybe a different material or design.

Too bad because a dual disc can handle much more power than a single disc but in the everyday stop and go driving a single disc is more forgiving.

That makes sense Rob I figured they would use a different material. Does this mean that even though some of us have had these parts changed once we now have to have them changed them again to the "new flywheel" ?

What about the input shaft and syncros too >?
