I feel for the kids. I spent lots of time as a teen playing pinball. Perhaps a basketball gym night or maybe even a summer "car info" night where the kids can learn about cars and gather. You could get some of the locals to talk at the events....just do it in a parking lot 1-2 times a month in the summers only. Sell Stangmafia merchandise there too.

Cruising was the big thing when I was young....not many girls had a 69 mustang convert to show off....I was very lucky! Thank goodness my dad built streetrods and was in the business. Kids these days are all hands on visual aids...rarely do they ever cruise because cities have banned it. A damn shame! Especially when their really not hurting or bothering a thing.

The town I live in has a 10pm curfew for kids parking in parking lots. The sad thing is, the cops cruise around town waiting to bust their tails.

Some communities here in upstate NY are actually encouraging it now! They've found the kids don't get into trouble when they have a place to gather and BS, so each week several local businesses let the kids use their parking lots on Fri/Sat night to meet and show-off their cars. If they don't behave the privilege is revoked, so anyone who acts up gets stuffed by peer pressure becuse no one wants to lose the gathering place.

It's been working for several years now in the Hudson Valley -- prolly elsewhere too. I hope it continues. It's also had the effect of gen-Y, gen-X and boomers all finding a common dialog -- cars! Its funny because the ricers hang together hang together and the modern-muscle and the rods/classics all mingle but, more and more, the ricers are groovin' on the muscle ...tho not much vice-versa (lol).

These are typically small events 15-25 cars ...50 is a big 'cruise-in' -lol. Back in the day a few hundred was a small gathering at Astoria Park and Friday night at Connecting Highway drew a thousand or more cars every weekend and sometimes dozens of 'grudge' races [sigh] ;-)
