We have some Stellar Jays (sort of a cross between a crow and a blue jay) nearby. A neighbor's cat was walking on our patio and one of the jays was on our rocks in the back yard and the jay attacked the cat. I guess their nest must be closer than I thought but I haven't heard them. I looked around the house and we've had birds nest in the crevasses by the downspouts but nothing.

Jays nearby are better than woodpeckers living in/on the house. Yep. I'll try to find picture. We were hearing bird noises and my daughter said "oh yeah, right outside my window" The woodpeckers had punched a hole through the stucco (DryVit) into the foam and made a nest. Sarah, why didn't you tell me about them? I thought they were cute. THen they came back. Woodpeckers are kind of like salmon. They come back to where they were born and find nests from there. THe only way to get rid of them is to start to attack the family tree. Even that didn't work so now I have bird netting hanging from the eaves.

We still have Hummingbirds all the time, but all they do is fight over the food.

My new neighbors live under the old shed of my old nieghbors LOL. I saw them when they were tiny but never had the camera with me till no there are actually 4 babies (only saw 3 today)

I thought of this thread for this shot....... that was from about 250 feet away

Last night the hummingbirds were zipping around so I got these.







They are cropped out of the raw originals taken at ISO6400 with my 80-200 lens.

KR, love your pic! What kind of problems do they cause? I know they will eat chickens and such, but do they go after your neighbors smaller dogs or anything?

twobjshelbys, nice pics of your little hummers. We usually have 3 to 5 fighting over our feeder. This year we seem to be down to one male and one female.
