Top Gear - Lightning

I like the British car show Top Gear. As long as you understand that they're biased against just about anything that doesn't cost at least $100k, you won't be disappointed with their reviews.



I saw an old episode tonight that included the SVT Lightning.

I'm sure there will be a few interesting comments after watching.

Sorry, I can't even watch that guy....nothing that comes out of his mouth is true.

There is just so much wrong with the accuracy and intent of that show that I find it almost impossible to watch.


First off it is anything but your typical F150 4wd truck (never was made to do the things an all out work truck should do )

The steering is very tight and responsive especially for a 4900lb truck that can still tow 5000lbs. (which he never mentioned) Of course he's thinking it should handle like a 2500lb Lotus Esprit.

The truck was never made for "the British countryside" it was built for the wide open rolling American country roads and dragstrips.LOL

The brakes on the lightning are very good (milk bottle caps ?)

The interior is fine fit and finish doesn't have to match a Jaguar's....or maybe it does if your a pompous ass.

He throws a couple of tiny bags of groceries in the rear instead of the front then has a guy run off with them at the end of the show to illustrate how bad and unpractical it is to have a pickup at all.
He must think the rest of the British population are a bunch of idiots.

He would fit in very well with the politicians who think the average citizen knows nothing and can't think for themselves . Just tell them what you want them to hear regardless of the facts and the truth.

Like the time they put a GT500 on a chassis Dyno to see if it had 500hp of course it only showed about 443 or so which they promptly claimed it didn't actually have the 500hp Ford said it does. Can you say intellectually dishonest, downright misleading, flat out lie ?

"The Cool Factor" Everyone in the US would think the Lightning is a "Cool" truck , loads of fun to drive but when it is represented and "road tested"( I use that term lightly)as a typical F-150awd work truck without ever explaining the real purpose and intent of this truck is the epitome of irresponsible biased reporting .

But them again we've come to expect this type of thing from the European Left haven't we. The problem is this type of thinking has been exported into this country for some time now and has infected America's way of thinking and Automotive journalism as well.

What exactly is a "Top Gear" anyway what is a bottom gear ? I guess the top gear is the last gear as opposed to the first gear...that would make sence because it would be the last automotive show I would ever watch as opposed to the first.

I won't go into what an a$$ he is but I can tell you the Lightning was everything it was supposed to be and then some.

I bought my 99 Lightning new when they came out, one of the first ones the dealership got in.

It has the most comfortable seats I ever sat in and that includes a lot of cars

It is still exhilarting to drive. It handles well, I can still beat a lot of cars around the traffic circle. It brakes very well. I can still turn the nitrous bottle on an really make it scream.

Several years ago, I had the trailer hooked up to it and car on the trailer. I was getting on the interstate when a Chevy truck decided to race me for the lane. I stood on it and waxed his tail, he was truly surprised.

Now the poor old Lightning is ten years old and it's red paint is fading and the clear coat doesn't shine. It has over 115,000 miles on it and has been very dependable. The seats are still wonderful to sit in.

It has no dents, no rust and just a nice truck with all of its wear.

Eventually, I will repaint it, and restore it to its former beauty.

It may even get a GT500 transplant.

Yep, the guy on Top Gear doesn't have a clue.

There is going to be a new "Top Gear" for the USA soon. I think it comes on in the next month or two. Adam Carolla is going to be the host I think.
