Great idea, I imagine they are astandard size for certain applications like for Aveo suspension components or something.

Sorry couldn't help myself.

They might be a little stiff for that application. Worst case, if you only installed them on one side of the vehicle, I think it would flip the vehicle over after you got out of it.

Thanks for the pic's guys. It sounds like everyone's happy with the struts. I'd heard of some problems with the ones sold by SPP and so was on the fence. No problems here with their ability to hold the hood up? Again thanks. Pictures are great.

The only issue I have with them (the MRTs) is that you have to kind of slam the hood down to latch it. When it's about a foot up, I'll give it a little extra throw to get it to close completely. I don't want to push it down to latch it for fear of denting the hood.

Yeah that would be bad especially if you snapped the rubber band or knocked the hamsters out of their wheel.

Yeah, that was a nice surprise that I found the day before I left for the Nags Head gathering this year. It looked like it got clipped by a fan blade & cauterized on the block.

Steeda? I've heard 95% good. Only issue is that the piece that attached to the fender can rotate or move due to the design.

Any other ones I'm missing?
I had the problem with the Steeda fender bracket shifting on me. I replaced the bracket with one off of a NXT GEN hood strut kit and it worked. I understand that Steeda is now shipping their kits with a newly desgined fender bracket that is more stable than the previous design.

I can think of just of couple more choices that fit your criteria:

CDC's struts are very similar to the MRT.

Hood Struts 05-08

NXT GEN's original struts did not fit well on the GT500 hood. They have since introduced a product for the GT500 and they come pre-painted in various colors to match your car.

Thanks - I installed the MRT's. Very nice. Easy to install. Mounting brackets are very solid and don't move a bit.

I believe they use the same unit.

IMO I think the GT500 kit should have a lighter cylinder w/ them. With the aluminum composite hood it is lighter and doesn't require as strong of a cylinder pushing up on it.

This is a real quick & simple mod, but a second set of hands to hold the hood up really helps.

If you need to take the hood bolts out to install the hood struts, use some painters or masking tape to outline the hinge to the hood. That way, you will align the hood back up without having to make a couple dozen adjustments.

Good call, I forgot about that step. I think the directions mention that too.
