Here's how the Steeda fender brackets shifted on me when I first closed the hood. They ended up scraping a mark on the plastic cowling.

Perhaps they shifted because I had my brackets painted blue to match my car. You can see how some of the paint scraped off the brackets.

I replaced them with these brackets from my NXT GEN kit, which are extremely sturdy.

The Steeda hood brackets are very nice though. I kept them since they were already painted Vista Blue. They really blend in well with the hood.

Now that Steeda has re-designed their fender bracket, it should be a very good product. I'd like to see one of the new brackets installed.

you sure it wasn't the paint on the surface that could have partially caused the bracket to slip?

Yeah, that's something I suspect could have contributed, but the original fender bracket design was lousy regardless. If it was a sound design I don't think Steeda would have re-designed it; I am glad they did.

Default Re: Hood struts

Stay away from the SPP (Scott Drake) hood struts they are junk.
I paid $109 for them through SPP and they won't keep the stock hood open. It stays open for about a minute but any vibration such as starting the engine or if you bump the hood it will slam closed.
They also have plastic ends on them that strip out. I called and complained about them and they sent me new cylinders but they won't hold the hood open very long either. I was afraid the hood would slam down and get damaged so I took them off and went back to the prop rod. I find that many Scott Drake products lack quality.

By the way I have a slightly used set of hood struts available if anyone wants them.

Do you know if they will hold up the fiberglass Super Snake hood?
My car is in the shop now having the SS hood painted and installed.

Not sure. You might want to give them a call & find out. If you know how much more the FG weighs than the OEM hood, that'll help them out. Or like someone mentioned, go with the Redlines like Keith has.

Another choice.
Take a look at CPC hood lift kits
They come in all all body colors and are a very high quality piece
I have installed a set and absolutly love them.

These are very nice parts and you can order them pre-painted. I used fender backets from the Cal Pony kit on my car to replace the ones that came with the Steeda kit - see post #42.

All correct. I have the redlines. My hood is 10lbs heavier than stock (33lbs total). Both struts hold it just fine. One doesnt, so you'll nee to support while installing the other. Their dual action, meaning slightly fast then slows the last inch or so when opening. Just make sure you measure four times before drilling. I believe i did a post on the install here.

CPC Cal Pony Car makes a nice Hood Strut and they come painted to match I've had them on my car for over a year and they work great, no drilling.

Nice. They do have the best design for fender mounts IMO. Are those the standard struts that come with the kit?
