Go with the length and not the width?

Slowly and gentlly slide the clay along the verticle edge of the stripe without actually touching the edge. Do not go against the edge of the stripe at all.

So if I was on the side of the car, would I have to go horizontal or verticle?

ok so whats the verdict..I am going to go out tomorrow and buy my products...I want to clay bar my car....then have to wax afterwards....so if I am reading this right this is what I should do
wash car with dawn to remove old wax....dry and allow to dry thoroughly (or does this matter prior to claying) use meguiars (sp?) clay bar kit and clay my car making sure to spray well use clay in vertical motion stay away from grooves in stripes etc....have plenty of micro fiber polishing towels... then wax or polish with_____________ (please fill in blank) looking for something that will not leave haze on my black plastic parts ok so do I also buy the liquid ice wax paste or same name liquid paste ...or does meguiars make a comparable product that will work as well if not better and not leave any haze on black plastic parts..... any final advice on the blank above is GREATLY APPRECIATED.... thx; ®

I did this once.....I now pay some one to do it as I just hate cleaning the car (but love it to be clean - bad combo with black). I used the meguiars gold wax and it did a great job. It smells good too but it does leave a haze on the plaztic. I would use it to seal after doing the clay and just get as close to the trim as you can then go back and go over all of it with the Ice so you can hit the plastic too.
I happen to like the gold wax better for a finish but the dry wash seems to repel dust better so maybe throw that on after the ice It does leave a haze on plastic too though. My detailer is a zaino guy. It's sick what he can do with that crap but he takes for ever and puts 6+ coats on with abuffer etc. Much more patient than I am and he's anal retentive and bitches about me driving the car right after he cleans it....I imagine it's like having grabber detail for you because it sure looks good. Good luck with it - it's a long project to undertake but if you like doing this stuff it will be a good time for you. If you don't you will feel better paying for a good detail next time

hmmm...paying someone....that may be the ticket..there is a detailer here that is a well known old car restore guy as well as detail wiz....maybe it would be better to pay him....I sometimes lose patience.....

I have been through about 3 "detailers" to get the one I have now. THe one that does the amazing car colection I put some pics up of (18 black supercars, rolls, buggati daily driver, etc). The one I have now is a good guy, hard worker, and I like him and will stay with him.
THe first one did about as good as i do which is not acceptable for a paid wash. The second almost got stabbed in the face when I got the car and there was wax all over the damn thing that I have to basically wipe off at home....it was high quality wax though. The 3rd actually was in tears when I told him I was going to bowl his head down the parking lot. This was the one at the Ford Dealer that hosed down my engine bay "but didn't use the pressure washer on it sir" and the computer and Mass Air Meter/Mafia got all wet and the car wouldn't run until we blew all of the pins and everything dry. The car came home great looking on the outside and with water spots on the engine. The current detailer was put through a strict interview process on the phone and took me to see his work (the collection) so I felt OK about it. He didn't even use the steam cleaner on my engine because of the electronics which I think is the right answer. As little moisture as possible just a good degreaser and cleaner and something to shine the hoses etc. ICE actually does nice here too (I think Grabber uses ICE all over). Anyway the moral is see the work of the detailer. Pictures or if possible swing by and see a car in progress. Make sure they are not f'ing off aroung the car and not hosing down engine bays etc. It's one thing on my jeep - quite another on the GT500. I would very bluntly tell them no water under the hood and if that's a problem don't have them detail the car. If I didn't hate to do it so much I would do it myself and never let anyone touch my car. |

My personal preference is the paste but others report the liquid is equally good. For this it's a matter of "what you grew up with". I'll probably get three or four more cars worth out of the single can of the paste so it's pretty economical. Give us a report.

No nee to dry after washing since you're just getting it wet again anyways. I like to do mine myself. It gives me something to do over the holidays while the wife is baking. I went so far as to tape off the black plastic parts with painters tape before I applied the Meguiars paste wax. Once this can is empty, I'll switch to the liquid Meguiars.
