Front Plate

Here's a new thread to comment on.
Here in Oregon, it is required to have a front plate on the car. To do this, one must puncture the stripes on the nose of a hard top. The work around is to put the plate in the front window. However, the darn thing slides back and forth while cornering.
I have opted to NOT put the plate in the window OR on the nos. Does anyone have a legal arguement I can use in case i gedt pulled over?

I had the guys in our prototype shop build me a bracket out of stainless steel that attaches underneath the splitter. I'm legal without ruining my bumper.

I have just left mine off, and keep it behind my seat on the floor.....if I get stopped I will just explain why I am hesitant to ruin the stripes on the front bumper....either they are ok with it, or I get a ticket and I pay it. No tickets yet over two years......if you get stopped for driving really poorly, I think you can expect to get an additional citation for the missing plate though

I am probably more comfortable with my type of approach because I am a federal law officer, and probably could talk my way out of the ticket anyway.....I just prefer to not get stopped in the first place so I drive pretty carefully most of the time...

and every year in Missouri there is a proposal to no longer require a front plate; I keep hoping it will pass at some point...

That's the same set-up I had my guys make. It works really well and doesn't hurt HE temps...

Stuart, that is a good looking system; you could probably sell a few of them, except that high quality work tends to drive the cost beyond what most will pay....the setup I provided the link to looks a bit like your system..(sorry, we are cross posting so I missed your comment above).

Not interested in selling them... No one had them when I made mine & it's too expensive for me to produce. I think the link you provded is the best bet and it's reasonably priced.... I've heard that it's a good piece.

I live in Toronto, Ontario have and an office in New York State too so I'm about 6 days/month in NYC. Both the Province of Ontario, Canada and our neighboring boarder State of New York require a front plate. I operate the vehicle in both countries in the summer months and chose not to drill holes in my front bumper and therefore, do not display a front plate.

The fine for not Displaying a Front Plate is $110 in Ontario, Canada and $90 in New York State. I have been pulled over twice for no front plate in 5000 miles of driving.

The first time the officer gave me a warning and complimented my 500. The next officer did his job and gave me a citation which I had a colleague take to court and it was dismissed only because the office did not show. Bottom line for me is I'll pay the ticket when necessary and avoid extra holes in my car and maintain the look that makes our cars so unique.

Bottom line is you'll get caught with no front plate and you will have no bona fie legal reason to dispute the citation so be prepared to pay a fee (fine) eventually to keep it off. But the going rate is a lot cheaper than the stripes and a new bumper.

I have a friend that's a machinist, unfortunately they are not on the market. He has made a few of them as gifts. He recently joined here. He has 2 GT500's. One 40th and one SS.

mines very similar to speedracers. stainless, mounts under with a 1/2" thick piece of rubber to both support and keep it from touching the splitter. Works great. And doesn't really impede air flow. But did recently move it over after installing my new HE.

Having a license plate on your dash is not the best idea, especially in the event of a high speed crash where your license plate will become a sharp edge projectile that could do you or your passengers a lot of damage.

I have seen people that put suction cups on the License plate and attach them to the interior of the windscreen. I do not think that is a good idea....

I keep the unit in the trunk. The entire unit takes 2 minutes to install. Mount and all.

And unbolts just the plate in a minute.
