No one mentioned Bad Santa? Billy Bob Thornton. You started off really hating the guy but by the end you root for him.

(Sorry, no clip. Youtube is blocked at work.)

Here you go Tony.

Watched a new one for me last night called Deck the Halls (Danny DeVito and Matthew Broderick). Story about clashing neighbors as one has a vision to decorate his house to the point that it can be seen from space! Very funny!

We watch White Christmas every year.

Miracle on 34th Street.

Christmas Story is banned. I have to watch it in secret when everyone is in bed.

As I mentioned earlier, every year my wife and I watch White Christmas with Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby. We're watching it now. We got a new DVD (not Blu-Ray) that upconverts to 1080p and it's pretty nice on the TV.

Crosby and Kaye played soldiers in WWII. Dean Jagger as General Waverly was their CO. He "got retired". Kaye saves Crosby in an attack.

Move forward...

Kaye and Crosby are Broadway producers and one of their old soldier friends has them visit the show of their sisters - Vera-Ellen and Rosemary Clooney.

The boys follow the girls (surprise) to a hotel in Vermont. It's General Waverly's hotel, but no snow and the girls show is getting canceled. The boys decide to have their Broadway show rehearsal come to the hotel. The boys try to cook up a reunion but Rosemary hears a snippet of a conversation that out of context doesn't work. Kaye sets up a fake engagement to Vera-Ellen, and Rosemary splits on her own. Bing goes to NY to appeal to the old Army guys that all come to the hotel. Rosemary comes back. It snows. Boys and girls get together. Reunion for the General.

Lots of old names in this one. Michael Curtiz directed (Casablanca and Yankee Doodle Dandy among his credits). Bob Fosse is listed as the (uncredited) choreographer in IMDB.

We were watching this on Christmas Eve in 1976 on our little TV in Phoenix. It was about midnight or so and my wife cashed in while I was watching our Himilayan cat that was about to have kittens. She cashed in for the night but I got do do midwifery duty. The movie is as much a memory of those days as anything.

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Kaye at an Oakland / Seattle Mariners game in 1977 or 78 or so. (He owned the Seattle team at the time and was just walking at the back of the stadium.)

Merry Christmas to all!

Funny you mentioned this tonight... I had just hooked up a projector to my xbox 360 so my son and I could play games over the Xmas holidays. It is about 100 inches diagonal on our wall and I have the stereo hooked up as well so it is like being at a movie! Tonight we all watched White Christmas together on it. Most everyone lasted about 2/3rds of the movie but at the end it was my two year old and myself that finished it. What a great movie it is!

I did not know that Mr. Kaye owned the Mariners! Stephanie and I lived near Seattle for 13 years before moving. We have been to several games while we were there and still root for them when we see them on TV!

Small world isn't it!
