Many of you may now have been directed to a splash screen of new rules on the forums. Regrettably, we have had to define what is and what is not acceptable on our forum.

Hopefully we will now put any questions to rest and move forward.

From today on, if anyone posts something you feel is objectionable, please take a moment to contact that person and let them know how you feel. If you are not able to resolve it, feel free to contact Admin. It has been my experience 99.9% of members here are open-minded and willing to compromise if someone has an issue with their posts.

As for old posts prior to December 31, 2008.......I do not plan on going through all 60,000+ posts. If there is an old post that is objectionable, please click on the "Report Post" icon at the top of each post and we will then review that post.

I understand the need to set some rules up and I am OK with it. Several things came to mind when I read through them and in the interest of being part of the family I thought I would throw out my opinion just based on some observations...

Posting pics with girls - I just posted this in Co-Pilots thread but I think it important to revisit it here as a suggestion since I have been through this recently in one of our local clubs

We recently had this come up in one of our local clubs. There was one girl in the club that was offended by pics with cars and girls. The board members tried to press this issue through establishing very conservative rules that did not allow any posting of pics with girls. This created a huge backlash from the membership as 99% of them are guys and the fact that girls and cars have gone hand in hand since way back. I mean you go to a SEMA show and there are girls all around at the vendors booths, the are are NOPI events, etc...

Ultimately the happy compromise that was agreed upon was to have an area on the site that was PG13 to allow people to post and view these types of pictures. That way anyone that could be offended by it knows ahead of time what the content is and can opt not to view that thread or forum.

I think this solution allows freedom and choice as well as letting people police themselves. I would suggest site owners consider this for this forum as well.

Posting of Advertisements - Make no bones about it. This is a for profit site - and I do not have an issue with it. However, one of the main reasons that this site was created was due to the "censorship" that was happening on TS. I think it is kind of ironic that if you read through the new rules and the rules on TS site they are very similar. I am not saying they are copied. Only that when you run a For Profit site, there are certain things you must do to protect your business. I only ask that the owners beware of what they impose, let they risk falling into the same pitfalls as TS. I love this site and spend more time here than on TS, and the primary reason is because there is no heavy hammer hanging over your head when you post stuff up. Hopefully that will not change...

Advertising Services and Solicitation - Once again, I understand the need to do this as a for profit site, but one of the great things about these forums is finding out information about products that are available and where to get it at the cheapest price. That may not be in the forum store. The whole Trufiber hood fiasco on TS comes to mind here...

I would also like to point out that the freedom to put something together like we did for LSR could now be in direct violation of this section of the new rules.

Those are my comments. Once again, I am not intending to create waves here. Hopefully throwing out some food for thought. IMO this site is just feeling the growing pains as it matures.

PS - Honestly I don't think I can post this without being a paid member so I will do that today. This site has been a great forum so it is time to give back. Keep up the good work guys!

Not copied, but taken from a vBulletin site I visit and softened, not TS. We are aware of the pitfalls and expect each of you to help keep us in line. We are open-minded.

We strive to get the lowest price possible for all products. If you find a lower price, we will try and beat it. If we can not, we are honest about that.

Unfortunately, if we allow anyone to sell anything, and someone gets ripped off, this site will be forever linked to that issue. It has not happened yet and I want to make sure it never happens.

That was one of the best examples of teamwork I have seen. We will never block or hinder something like that.

the way i read the rules, our for sale area is now illegal, we can not sell our own stuff to each other, and as a car dealer i can not sell anything to any of us as well
is that the way everyone else reads them?
nobody can peddle their take parts off now?

I don't think that's how it is intended.....Perhaps wording needs to be adjusted but there just has not been time yet...feel free to take a crack at it.

The rules are meant to address the plethora of issues from earlier in the week and protect us from folks selling snake oil. The bigger we get, the more I want to make sure each person on this site can trust what is sold on this site.

If anyone has a question about posting something, just ask. We are very open-minded and plan to be as flexible as possible.
