Default Cool Mustang? And my new toy!

I was out shopping for a new vehicles after turning in my Expedition (had 5 in a row for the last 11 years). Anyways, I was hunting for a F150 Crew Cab, with 4x4 and a short bed. Yea I know I live in NV but being a native Midwesterner, I just like the feel and drive of a 4X4 and who know, might want to go out in the desert once in a while. So I looked at a couple pre-owned cert vehicles at the dealers, almost locked into one on Friday night, then decided to check out how bad Ford wanted to dump the remaining 08's. So Saturday I went to several Ford dealers and while attempting to make deal, noticed this Mustang in the show room. I was told it was not for sale, and was at the SEMA show, and they are just using it for show and tell... so what do you think? Also, and to make a long story short, I did indeed finally find a cool used truck.. (yea seems Ford is not hurting bad enough to give the 08's away yet).. almost exactly what I wanted or close enough, so I bought an FX4 on Saturday! See below!

Congrats on your new toy! I like the monochromatic paint. My brother has a similar truck and really likes it. The only thing it needs is a supercharger, he's got to keep up with my diesel Excursion!

Thanks! Truck came pretty loaded with the FX4 package, but someone put custom rims on and turned it into dual exhaust, which makes it sound nice. I do need to get some step bars, so going to shop that tomorrow.. maybe I can find a deal on a nice set. Not sure if I want to go black tube or chrome to match the rims!

Cool Re: Cool Mustang? And my new toy!

We have the factory black bars on ours, easy to keep clean and not too blingy.

Might look good w/ chrome on that color w/ those wheels though?

I know...not much help.

I saw a Southern Comfort Mustang up in Minnesota before we left. I do not remeber the Black Widow version though. If I remeber correctly, the Southern Comfort Mustangs have the 4.6L and are built from a GT base.

Nice truck!

Thanks! and you are correct, this is a base GT that Southern Comfort did some work on. They also have a truck done up in really cool options and paint colors. No price on it, but I did like the hood, the exhaust and rims... not so crazy about the side scoop package.... but thought it was photo worthy!

I had chrome on my 03 F-250. Mine got pitted from the rocks and a pain to keep shiney. I would go with the black bars from a maintenance standpoint. Either way, both accent the truck well from a looks standpoint.

I was leaning that way... I think the black blends in better, sicne the only chrome is the rims.. also easier to keep clean and half the cost! So would you recommend 4' or 5' tubes? Having never had them, not real sure why or what the difference is? Maybe the 5' are for larger trucks?

I would go for the 5" tubes. They are a little wider but is easier to step on. Another thing to remember is when these get wet, they do get slippery. The top is made of plastic so watch your step. You may want to take a look at other trucks that have them on before you decide just to get a better idea of how they will look.

On my new F-250, I got the regular step type and I like them better. There is more foot room and not quite as slippery as the tubes and they look good on a crew cab.

Funny you say that... my lady friend said she would rather I go with the wider (oval/flatter) type than the round, for that reason... hum.... you may both be right.... Thanks!

Definitely go with the black tubes. My wife's truck has 3" black tubes that have a flat spot on top where you step. There is also a black plastic cap in those areas with a tread that help minimize slippage.

Those do look pretty sweet on your Expedition, although it's still a pretty huge step on your beast.

I've had all 3.

Chrome pits no matter what you do, so after a while it will not look as nice.

Black was usually the cheapest, and didn't chip as much - but it always did eventually, then you'd get the rust spots.

Best was the stainless steel. Always looked good, but also the most expensive. The ones I had on our last truck looked great even after a few nasty Minnesota winters.

Good luck Dan.

Those are indeed cool, but way over budget... however I like that style without the power!

I think I am going to go with black. Seems you all agree the chrome does not hold up well for the money, and the black should do well out here in NV rust free. I am also thinking of either the 5' round or settle on the oval (flatter than the round and wider). Thanks guys!
