SAI being sued over non-payment of CF parts

Plasan Carbon Composites, a leading supplier of Carbon Fiber parts for OEM’s and aftermarket companies filed a lawsuit on December 17th in the U.S. District Court of Vermont claiming Shelby Autos has refused to pay for Carbon Fiber Parts manufactured and delivered by Plasan back in 2008.

In the suit Plasan claims they manufactured 1,747 sets of Carbon Fiber parts for the Shelby GT500KR and delivered them to Shelby Autos starting in April of 2008 and completing delivery in December of 2008. Each set of Carbon Fiber parts include a Shelby GT500KR hood, front splitter and left and right mirror cover. The four Carbon Fiber parts that make up each set are said to cost $3,800 according to court documents. That would make a total of $6,638,600.00 in parts that were not paid for. Yes thats $6.6 Million dollars.

The cost of the Carbon Fiber parts brings to light another dispute involving Shelby Autos when they were trying to charge a GT500KR owner $20K+ to replace the Carbon Fiber hood. What a markup they had.

Why does this not surprise me.

I've said for awhile now that SAI is not going to be around for the long term.

They have to be one of the worst managed companys in the country.

Its no big surprise.

Before Ford rescued them with the Shelby GT, these were normal business practices for SA.

I don'tknow anything about this situation, but I have to wonder if the name change and timing of this tie in together at some point.

The agreement with SAI would not be in place with S Amer. then SAI files bankrupt or out of business and doesn't pay off their debt? Some one that knows more than me would need to comment on the possibility of this scenario but the timing of it all seems to make me wonder if that has any merit.

Now we know why those KT parts cost so much though - They should have just used the hydro graphics guys on here

That is just a shame to ruin a business that has taken years to build up and be tarnished like this. I am sure Carroll did not realize that this was going on. There has been more drama out of SAI/SA since certain people have taken over management then ever before.

I don't see that happening anytime soon. There are too many people over there at TS that drink the Kool-Aide and keep them in business. Maybe this will wake up Carroll and do a management shake up.

...I think it was probably the proverbial straw that broke the camels back.....if the KRs had shown up in the showrooms on the anticipated schedule, most dealers would have made some nice money on em.....as it was, most landed after the economic mess really started hitting hard.....6 months delay or so makes a huge difference sometimes....plus they were starting to show up way to close to the next model year.....

they had 08's and 09's on some of the same trucks

So true, people don't care about how the company is run, as long as they can buy something that says Shelby..

One question though, Does Carroll actually have a say in how the company is run or is he merely a figurehead? A name to make money from?

Not to stir up the pot but I don't know how Carroll could not know. His reputation for paying his bills extends way back to the 70's, or so I have read. It's just that it hasn't been on the scale of the KR.

Companys like Kirkham (who made the aluminum bodies and still do) cut them off and would only do COD with him. That was about the time Shelby went to Mexico to make them for a while. Now they rebadge the Superperformance brand.

Carrol is great racing icon but these kind of things seem to be habitual.
