I edited some of my post since it's possible and more likely the longer time goes by and no money comes into my bank account that this was a fraud attempt...I can't say for sure this was the Doug Gray family or not...I'll give it a day before I call police to tell them my story of what's been going on...If it turns out to be a scam and it looks like it is I'm embarresed that It got this far but glad that I didn't trust them enough to give them my account info...I even told people that it sounded to good to be true and as the saying goes if does sound too good to be true it probably is...

sorry to hear...that sucks..at least you didnt give out vital info...they could have easily gotten that info from the band site and used it as part of the scam...if in fact it is one..and sounds like it could be...

Alright...Here's my story...My wife found out she is pregnant with our second child about 3 or 4 weeks ago...I decided to sell my shelby mustang to get out from under the payment especially since we won't be able to fit all 4 of us in that car because noone can set behind me when I'm in there...Anyway I thought I had it sold to a couple in south carolina...Supposedly Doug Gray the lead singer of the marshall tucker band and his wife were going to buy the car for their 18 year old son for his birthday the son new about it and was excited...They drug their feet on getting me the payment supposedly sending the money order fedex and we didn't receive it...Then the wed. they went to their bank and was gonna make the deposit into my account(I didn't give them my info they can make a deposit into your account with just a name and address)...She was supposed to call thursday morning and let me know when the money had been sent so I could check my account and pay the car off to complete the sale...She called and told me we had a situation and that her son had found a roush 427 at a dealership and they were going to try and trade in a nissan 350z they had but if they couldn't work a deal they would call me back...I'm pissed at this point but don't want to ruin the sale...They call back and say they bought the roush so they wouldn't be buying my car but that they would still deposit 1 month car payment for holding me up a week on the sale of my car...I'm not holding my breathe on that promise as she is supposed to call when the money is there to make a raw deal easier to swallow but they have changed their story everyday now for the last week...I was gonna drive the car down they were gonna fly me home,they were gonna fly in pick the car up,they were gonna send a truck to pick the car up and have it delivered...The money was supposed to be here monday,then tuesday,then wensday and thursday morrning...Anyway I still have both cars now and my weekend got free now so I'm going to try and make the ST.JOE show sunday may 17th at the city park downtown with both cars if anyone else is planning on going...Oh and the mustang is for sale again on craigslist,ebay and probably have a for sale sign it at the show...I'd like to go off on them on the phone but I'm trying to hold back and still have a small glimmer of hope they might follow through with one of their promises and send me the months car payment...I talked to them everyday sometimes 3 or 4 times a day making plans and arrangements...I wasted a lot of time and effort on a sale that never happened...Maybe I need to make that trip to south carolina anyway

every 3rd saturday....usually 150+ cars there......should be nice this sat so lots could see your car

Yep, sounds like a scam to me.

You didn't give them the info they REALLY wanted (your bank account #), so as soon as that fell through, they had to find a way out. Sounds like the typical way to string someone along...

Check's in the mail, did you get it?

Darn, it won't work. Just give me your account info and I'll wire it to you.




You'll never see that one months payment from them. It was just a way for them to get away without you following up for a while. I bet if you try those #'s, you won't get them. Probably throw away cell phones.


Sorry it happened, but at least you didn't lose any $$ or your car.

Fedex has a letter in the mail for me...The lady called and sent me a tracking #...Maybe it really was legit?

Hey Jon I plan on taking both the shelby and the superbee to the cruise in saturday night and the car show sunday that you mentioned...A couple of people are supposed to show up that want to view the car in person from my ad on craigslist...I will drive the shelby and my wife the superbee since the shelby is a 5 speed and the bee is auto...If the shelby somehow sells I still plan on being at both events with the superbee...

I think it will sell...If it doesn't its not a big deal my wife has said several times to just keep it...I'd rather go with one less car payment until the babies here and decide what to buy or I mean do then...Grant if you still need that x-plan pin for the expedition LMK My wife and I love our navigator! I'm not sure what to expect from fedex monday at this point but I will definatly be careful if it is a money order or cashiers check...

BTW go to fedex.com and check the tracking number, it should tell you where it originated from.

Thanks man. I'll definitely let you know about the X plan when I find one. The Expedition ELs are nice rides. What I'd really like is a 7.3 Excursion but I don't know how to find a reliable one with low miles.

I drove one of those excursions limited a few years back when it was at the old Crossley dealership it was completely loaded...I just couldn't convince myself to buy one when at the time I had no kids so I bought a F250 supercrew 7.3L diesel instead it was almost $10,000 cheaper...I told Misty the other day I wish I had one of those now but I don't think I would trade the Navigator for it...The Navigator rides SO much better than the excursion and I don't really have a need for the pulling power of the diesel right now...

The good news is you still have your car to sell, the worst possible scenario if these losers where scam artists is they'd have your car and you would have no money and still have the loan to pay off.

And lets face it if this wasn't a fraud attempt these losers are still time wasting flakes.

I have three rules when it comes to a private sale for anything:

1) Get a name and address and home number from the prospective buyer.

2) Get a larger than average deposit and tell them upfront that you'll keep it, if the deal does not close by the agreed upon date, that's what a deposit is for to protect the seller.

3) Go with your GUT, if it starts to smell, it smells!

Good luck with Part 2 of the sale process, I hope it works out.

Well I got the money monday morning that I was promised took it to the bank and had it checked out with no problems...They must have been legit and their son just backed out...

Ok first I have to tell you about Doug and Renee Gray...The check they overnighted fedex to me bounced...Incredible! Offering to pay me $800.00 for their son backing out on the deal that they strung me along for a week on was a nice jesture and almost too good to be true and turns out it was...The check I deposited had posted to my account then 3 days later it comes out because the check either had a stop payment or insufficient funds...So I am done with those people and I'm not worried about them...Some times in life you cross paths with bad people and there isn't much you can do about it but forget about them...Anyway the car is sold...It was paid for and picked up today by a local kansas city area couple that I first met at Shelbyfest...I told them about the forum but I don't know if they will get on here or not...
