ford is charging each dealer 1000.00 for each 2010 and 2011 Gt500 that they are allocated FYI

Subject: EFC0800351DC 2010-2011 Shelby GT500 Dealer Certification

The purpose of this communication is to ensure dealers interested in being eligible for the 2010 & 2011 Model Year Shelby GT500 complete the certification enrollment forms no later than COB November 10, 2008.

Shelby GT 500 Certification & Enrollment Requirements:

Sign and return the Shelby GT500 enrollment package form no later than COB November 10, 2008

Sales Certification: Dealerships will be required to maintain at least one Shelby GT500 certified sale consultant. Training requirements will be similar to those in the past and include web-based training. Specific training requirements and course numbers will be the topic of a future communication.

Additional Information:

A $2,000 enrollment fee will be billed to your P&A code in (2) annual installments of $1,000. This enrollment fee will provide your dealership the following materials:

Product Brochures, Hero Cards, Technical Data Cards
Web based product training and product update FORDSTAR Broadcasts.
Event Support
Dealer/Consumer assistance through the Ford Performance Group
Shelby GT500 Allocation and Distribution Plan

Dealers who complete the certification process will be eligible for the following allocation:

One unit for any dealer that completes Certification Requirements
Remaining production will be based on Mustang Share of Nation formula. This will be determined once dealer certification has been completed.
All enrollments must be received by COB November 10th, 2008 in order to be eligible for allocation in the 2010 and 2011 Model Year's.

Technically it appears it's $1,000 per year, not $1,000 per car. For some dealers that only get one car allocated, that will turn out to be $1,000 per car. For others it may be much less once "share of nation" is determined.

And with the economy the way it is, this may cause SOME dealerships (probably smaller ones) that may have gotten an allocation to give it up.

My local dealer is not opting to go this route. They are having a difficult time selling the one they have.

It's at least good that they're getting the training ... some dealers didn't even know what oil to use in the GT500s :doh: ...tough times for everyone.

If you sign-up for 2010 you're set for 2011, but I wonder if you *don't* sign up for 2010 if dealership then can't sign-up for 2011 ...since rumor is '11 GT500 is 'special'

There may not be a 2011 for FORD let alone the GT500.

Recessions are funny that way ...as long as folks think things are bad it becomes a self-fullfilling, and self-sustaining, prophesy ...and the longer that happens, the more job losses, the deeper the recession/depression, and the harder it is for the country to break out of it.

Hence the urgency to fix bank liquidity and stimulate spending somehow (hopefully in some meaningfull way not with portk projects). Sometimes I think that the relentless media bombardment of doom and gloom has partly caused folks to stop spending who would not otherwise do so which prompts a chain reaction.

Not saying that's *caused* the problems (banking collapse due to toxic assets due to over-sold and badly-targeted loans, etc, sort of did that all by itself) but I think it is now sustaining it.

Recessions are sort of funny in that if the public thinks they are in one, they very rapidly are (whether they were or not) and it cannot be reversed until they think things are getting better and start spending again and, voila! ...things get better.

If the cycle can be broken before business layoffs (expense containment) make it a serious downward spiral, the damage will be much less. Ironically, it's a great time to buy a new car -- great deals to be had for those able to jump.

There's a picture of the 2010 GT500 painted Grabber Blue with red stripes on the March issue of Motor Trend. It has got to be the worst color combo I've seen to date. Not a big fan of the Grabber Blue anyways, but put the red stripes on it &

Yeah, GB was never a color that appealed to me either ...dunno why, who it isn't bad with white stripes.

I also like the look of the conventional headlights (outboard) on the '10 GT500 vs the Projector HIDs (inboard). Looks like only the '08/09s had the round-lens HID option, which I like best.

If I'm reading it right:
  • '07s - round halogen headlights
  • '08/9s - round halogen and round HID option
  • '10s - round halogen (outboard) and HID-projector option (inboard), [no round outboard HIDs]
Theres also something about the compound curves of the front quarters from hood to headlights to fenderwells that creates absolutely stunning and fluid shadow and highlight blends -- absolutely masterful form/design, imo ...bet they did a few stamping trials before they got that just right.

I would imagine that they make less expensive proof-of-concept tooling in order to prove out the tooling before making the real dies. When I was at Lockheed, they would use stereolithography to make the prototype stamping tools in order to verify some of their more complex shapes. They could get 2 or 3 stampings before the tool started deforming On some programs where we were only making a couple of aircraft, that was the primary method for making a lot of their drill tools they needed for complex surfaces. Cheap, quick & effective.
