Default 2010 Mustang CJ Gets Green Flag

Exact specifications are being finalized, but the initial plan is for the 2010 Cobra Jet to have a 425-hp 5.4-liter supercharged engine from the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog, with an option to upgrade to an estimated 475-hp aluminum block engine.

It (the aluminum block) will be OEM in the 2011 GT500. Of course the HP will be rated at least 540 like the 2010.

That rating is because of the NHRA clases the car is designed to run in. Just like the current CJ is underrated from the factory. There are many CJ's running in the 9's that are 425 factory rated HP.
Trust me the aluminum engine offered will be the same one coming in the 2011GT500 except the CJ will have a TVS blower on it. Don't pay attention to the CJ hp rating it is that way only for it's production car racing class rules.

Max and I spent some quality time with the 2008 CJ at the Barrett Jackson auction in January. The car is race-ready with guaranteed 10s times as it comes from Ford. Including drag radials, roll cage, HANS device, windshield wiper delete option, etc.

The Cobra Jet is NOT street legal. It has a serial number (not a VIN number) and is sold on a bill of sale. Production will be limited - I think there something like 50 2008's.

The car was actually produced by Roush under an arrangement similar to the Shelby GT500KR - partially finished vehicles were intercepted from the factory line and shipped to Roush where the final assembly was performed.

They are cool and the exhaust sound is awesome. Straight pipes, no cats. When they drove it on the auction stage everyone stopped talking and heads turned to the front.

When the '08's were introduced they were giving preference to those dealers that ordered more than one (I heard Galpin ordered 5). Intent is to deliver to a racing team. I also heard that they were ordered through the parts department.

Cool car if you get to see one.

i did..there were two at ATCO back in May. Just cant remember if they were stick or auto's. one was the #16 car built.

Milan, Mich. - The 40th Anniversary 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet more than lived up to its billing, joining its historic predecessor-the original 1968 Cobra Jet in winning its inaugural race at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Now, Ford Racing is ready to update the latest Cobra Jet, and is announcing plans to build a 2010 version of the CJ. The announcement was officially made today at the National Mustang Racing Association event in Milan.
A little more than a year ago, Ford Racing announced plans to build a modern edition of the Cobra Jet. The limited run of 50 cars sold in less than two weeks, even before the first car was built. Once again Ford Racing will produce a limited run of 50 2010 Mustang CJs, the minimum number that must be produced in order to receive clearance from NHRA for competition.
Exact specifications are being finalized, but the initial plan is for the ‘10 Cobra Jet to have a 425-hp 5.4-liter supercharged engine from the Ford Racing Performance Parts catalog, but with an option to upgrade to an estimated 475-hp aluminum block engine. Likewise the 6-speed manual transmission that was available in the ‘08 Cobra Jet will be standard, but an option to upgrade to 5-speed Liberty manual transmission or a race prepped automatic transmission will be available. Other ‘10 Mustang Cobra Jet upgrades include an 8.50et NHRA certified roll cage and lightweight racing brakes.
