A major deluge of media releases today on the 2011 Ford SuperDutys, from F250-550.

Too much to summarize with separate comments, so I'll just index all the announcements below but, for the intrepid reader (lol), there's are some good insights, e.g. on the logic of why larger Bores and smaller strokes on the 6.2, the new 6R140 tranny and both new engines in general (6.7 DI/VCT/TT diesel and 6.2 PI/VCT/NA [H-BOSS] gas), features and facts, etc and some click thrus to the updated SuperDuty website (included below) with a bunch of brief videos (soft-content, consumer-oriented, but still some insights) intro'd by Mike Rowe but by the Ford folks owning each aspect of the SuperDuty program.



Ok, here goes (these are in the actual order Ford released them) -- clicky the title of each announcement for each complete Ford media release:


ALL-NEW FORD-ENGINEERED, FORD-TESTED, FORD-BUILT DIESEL MAXIMIZES 2011 SUPER DUTY'S PRODUCTIVITY

A friedn of ours just recently bought a new F350 King Ranch crew-cab (it's really nice) ...I was trying to get him to wait till next year.

That new tranny caught my eye too. If the naming convention (which has benn consistent for many years) holds, that new 6R140 tranny is good for 1,400 ft lbs ...pretty impressive.

Thanks for posting this Dan, looks like the leadership at Ford has them doing all the right things when it comes to the quality , durability and the features a demanding consumer will be looking for .

welcome, George... I was impressed with that subtle vid on the prior/current 'sound' of diesels. At first I thought it was a recording but that was actually an instantaneous switch from the old (noisy) combustion management to the new combustion management system -- pretty cool!

I found a couple of new tidbits on the new 6.2L SOHC.

Valves: 2.10I/1.63E. It's bore is about .06 smaller than the LS3/A 6.2 and teh intake is about .10 smaller ...exhaust also smaller, but this is comparing a truck motor to a 556HP hi-po engine ...not bad out of the box.

Also, found a reference to Ford supposedly saying the 6.2's design will efficiently support up to 7.3L [hmmmm ;-)]

And this pic sort of makes the branding question a done deal (prior pics had a black plate over the BOSS):

DALLAS, Sept. 24, 2009 – A series of webisodes, hosted by Dirty Jobs’ Mike Rowe, will be posted today detailing the development and testing of the new powertrain lineup of the all-new 2011 Ford Super Duty.
In the series, Rowe leads customers through laboratory and real-world durability testing of the Ford-built 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V-8 turbocharged diesel, 6.2-liter V-8 gas engine and 6R140 heavy-duty TorqShift® six-speed automatic transmission. Looks like I will have to move the HD 350 to a race car only truck for 2012 and look at one of these for work

Sounds promising but I think I will give them a model year to work the bugs out....the turbo is a little concerning...DDC did this on one year of the Silver 92 and it was a disaster...worked great for a while but there were issues with cooling and oil supply when the compressor wheels were turning two different speeds...they lasted about a year and had shaft failures which quickly caused a run away once it started pumping oil into the intake....hopefully they have done a lot of multi climate testing on this....

This video might be of interest ...150K independent test. 130+ days 1,100+m/day, 48 states+Alaska, 100% of the time towing a 40' 3-axle 5th wheel w/12000-18000# load. No failures of any kind, just reg maint. They talk about some of the features ...plan to continue on to 250K mi.
