Default Active-Motion Multi-countour Ford seats...

I'm impressed with the level of enginering leadership and detail Ford is showing again over the past couple of years ...especially in their patent portfolio (now accepted as the industry's leader overall).

This media release on the new Taurus active-motion(tm) seats is sort of indicative. Mike Kolich, Ford’s seating comfort engineer, a.k.a. "doctor of derrieres" (lol) seems to be onto something *and* apparently sitting down on the job as well

I also got a chuckle that these new seats, designed to eliminate back pain on long trips, were being developed at Ford’s European Research Centre in Aachen [lol], Germany.

ok, ok, I'll stop ...oh, here's the linky ;-)

[edit:] Ford Media soundbites on the Multi-contour seat (no, no, not *those* soundbites ) ...for the hard-of-reading (lol)

-lol- ...reminds me of the butcher who backed into the meatgrinder ...he was fine, just got a little behind in his work -bada bing- ;-)

Seriously, tho ...I've always had a problem with Honda seats. The few times I've gotten stuck with one as a rental, within 15-30 minutes I'm in pain -- even my buddy's Accura, which feels comfy initially, does it after a while. Maybe seat designs are like shoes -- built to a specific 'shape.' I must not be Japanese-standard -lol. Subaru Forrester does it too.

Maybe I can rent my butt to Honda for 'research' purposes ...that ought to be $200K a year, no?

Ford has made great seats of late IMO; when I replaced my 2005 GMC Sierra Z71 with my 2007 Expedition I could not believe the difference on long drives. My truck was an SLT so it had the top interior trim you could get (other than the Denali but that had the same seats) and I thought my back pain after a couple of hours just was part of aging...lol. I usually do at least one run south a week (4.5 hrs one way) and in the Expedition I don't even stop for a stetch any more.

Got a chuckle out of the advice they had on seat adjustments by pushing your foot to the floor etc....most vehicles don't have enough seat travel for me to do this. Although, I am impressed how much leg room is in my GT500.

I might have to take a new Taurus for a test drive just to see how all the new goodies come together. I like that FMC has a real 'flagship' car again ...with the Ford name on it.
