Default Battery powered drag car?

I think this beats TG's hybrid.

Cool Re: Battery powered drag car?

I have had lots of remote control cars over the past 25 years.

Battery technology in the past 5-6 years has gone through the roof.

It is amazing how much juice these new batterys have. For years it cost around $100 for a battery that would get you about 9 minutes of good run time.

Now you can get twice that (around 18 minutes) for $40-$50.

The Metal Hydryd batteries last longer also and don't have memory meaning you don't have to drain them down with a lightbulb after each use.

Yeah, battery technology has come a long way! We made a Hybrid Skid Steer (BobCat). It can operate up to 1 hour on battery power. Pretty Cool.

Cool Re: Battery powered drag car?

That is really cool.

I can only imagine how many forklifts are out there and how much this could possibly save in the future.

Now we need this type of technology for our 18 wheelers.

That *is* very cool, Stuart!

At SEMA wednesday Ford showed a 600HP all-electric F-150! Four 150HP hub-electric motors -- fully integrated -- based on PML's Hi-pa Drive (tm) ... not for sale but nice attention getter and I bet it's pretty darn quick too ...100% torque available from zero rpm! ;-)

[edit:] TG, there's even one for Co-Pilot! ...with not much unsprung weight added.

It doesn't look like a forklift but like a skid loader (and it may be a Bobcat brand but I can't tell). The electric innards are interesting. How much can it lift? This looks like a 753 or 763 class and the diesel version should be able to lift about 2000lbs.

Also, diesel locomotives are actually electric trains. The diesel drives a generator which supplies power to the wheels. I'm asserting this should be the practice, even for automobiles. Looking for venture capital. My first would be a commuter car powered by a 3-cyl diesel which in turn generates electricity to direct drive DC motors at the wheels.

It's a S-130 and it meets all of the hydraulic versions capabilities....

That's the setup for the Chevy Volt, except it will have a 4- cyl gas engine. Diesel would definitely a better set-up IMO.
