Interesting concept ...wonder how good it would sound ...I mean, the rasp would have to come on 'right' to not sound artificial but could be cool.

I guess what's bothering me is that the exhaust sound is feedback to what's actually happening and if that is 'disconnected' from reality it might not be very satisfying -- dunno. May depend how they mess with it.

Cool idea to explore but somehow not feeling I'd like that.

That's exactly right -- the truth about paper has gone full-circle. We've always specified paper (paper or plastic, sir? ;-)) when a bag was needed because they involve less overall eviro impact; wood pulp is a largely renewable resource (zero net-new carbon impact at any given production level) and is more effectively recycled.

However, plastic weighs less and is still cheaper (mostly because it weights less so has less transport/fuel cost content even if made from virgin materials) so stores will still offer plastic. Also most plastic bags wind up in landfills and take much longer than brown paper stock to biodegrade.

Jan keeps two large woven-plastic reuseable bags (made from recycled soda cans) in the car for grocery shopping. Many stores around here give you a $.05 or .10 credit/bag for using your own bags but the real point is just minimizing unnecessary resource consumption.

Sorry, don't mean to be preachy but I've been involved in this stuff for about 40 years ...awareness has come a long way, if painfully slow. If there's anything genuinely good to come out of the global warming rhetoric it might just be making folks more aware that small changes make a big difference ...especially when 6 billion people get more awareness of the results of their actions. Of course if folks were a bit more aware of that they might actually consider buying cars from our domestic manufacturers! Duh!!!

If they try to make us drive crap, we still have choices: doing what Carnut is doing to his '65 mustang! ...and anarchy.

I think there are fundamental freedoms being curtailed if the government attempts to mandate a choice as opposed to encourage it. It's fine for the government to push offering such cars, but they cross a fundamental line in a free society, imo, when they attempt to curtail the rights of individuals to do othewise of their own accord. There have been three bills (while the economy is in the dumper, no less) trying to buy and crush citozens cars and trucks that the government deems inefficient -- that's scary especially since there is no hard science behind anthropogenic global warming.

I think the liberal democrats will attempt to do that (as you suggest) and I think the issue is much broader than just cars. If it was a genuine concern for the environment there should be equal focus on home heating plant and industrial carbon emissions.

Maybe muscle cars need a cap and trade carbon program. I think we could cover the future carbon emissions of all muscle cars for the rest of humankind within 2009 levels. Cars have been selected to be at the whippling post in a synthetic scheme to transfer Al Gore-fabricated guilt onto a naiive public via distorted science.

If that's not worthy of push-back I don't know what is.

A profitable cottage industry may well emerge to refurb (not restore) 90s-present cars to run on E85 and or separate gas+ethanol. Ford has a plan to use gas and ethanol in separate tanks via dual DI and PI systems to maximize the eficient use of oil resources, and while the government (DOT) has expressed interest and Ford has applied for funding, you'll likely never see it come to pass because this government doesn't really want to maximize the reduced use of gas as a primary fuel -- they want gas to go away ...it's a nutty thing to do prematurely, and it's based on bogus reasons, imo.
