Another clue....remember earlier I said my timing light wouldn't even flash the strobe? If the coil is only putting out partial voltage due to high secondary winding impedance, I'm thinking that makes sense as to why the light won't flash.

i was thinking coil too. did you do a good visual of the coil. a hairline crack will affect it dramatically. thats what my problem was on my 68 way back when...

The age of the coil could have taken its toll on it. Plus all the time it has been sitting around could lead to that as well. Just something to look into.
