Default KC thanksgiving 2007 Mafia Style

Well, Thanksgiving 2008 is almost upon us, causing me to reflect upon certain events that occurred last Thanksgiving holiday in KC, involving the mafia members Johnny Lupara, Alloy Dave and of course, Hsurb........

for some, this will merely be a refreshing moment of recalling mafia superiority over the common street criminal, for others, it will provide new insight into the true meaning of mafia brotherhood...... yea, I know, I'm full of it tonight...........

the story, first from me, JL: (all cut and pasted from another site, I am just too lazy to rewrite)

Fact: Hsurb's Lincoln Navigator was stolen in a nice shopping/restaurant area of KC last night due to the negligence of the valet parking guys at a upscale steak house. banghead.gif

I'm gonna give the short story version; and let Dave post his photos when he gets home in a few days; and Tim can tell the full story since he's good at that.

Set up; Alloy Dave and Terry are in town to see a Raiders game. Hsurb is in town with his family for Thankgiving get together. As stated above, his vehicle was stolen last night. censored.gif

Cut to this afternoon; was that really Alloy Dave, Hsurb and KCMO seen coming out of a notorious BBQ joint a few blocks from the scene of last night's crime?

And could that really have been Tim's SUV actually newly parked in front of said BBQ joint?
redcard.gif
And was the dude walking by them really opening the door with Tim's key to drive off?

And could that really have been the mild mannered accountant Dave slamming the door on the dude, and beginning an interrogation that would put the waterboarding CIA to shame? superhero.gif

And was that really KCMO pushing the dude against the car, followed by the entire TeamShelby 3 surrounding the dude in a most threatening manner?

And was the dude last seen running away screaming like a baby and threatening to call the police on us hysterical2.gif

There's a lot more to the story, but I've got to give Tim a chance to get home tomorrow and post up the whole thing. Wow, things like this don't happen in real life.
headspin.gif

Absolutely true story; more to come I am sure from Dave and Tim. Tim should be home late today, and Dave late this week. None of us was armed with anything but our charm and good looks, so I think we were concerned that a beat down on the guy might have forced him to use a weapon if he had one.

now from Hsurb:

Where do I start? It as been a crazy last three days to say the least.

First of all - a big thank you to KCMO-GT500, Alloy Dave and his wife. Without their assistance, none of following episode would have been possible.

As KCMO/Bad Cat mentioned, I took my wife, kids and parents out to eat the Friday night after Thanksgiving. It was a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, so it is not the type of place you would associate having your vehicle stolen. We valet parked and there must have been some confusion among the valet drivers. To make a long story short, after dinner, they determined that it had been stolen before they parked it. I ended up sending everyone else by taxi back to the hotel. I spent the next two hours (yes two hours) waiting for the police to arrive. When they arrived, I spent another hour filling out reports.

To complicate the entire process, my wife and I had spent Friday afternoon test driving another vehicle that we were in the process of trading. The plan was to complete the trade Saturday morning.

Well, since we no longer had a car to trade, we consulted with the dealer and we decided to purchase the vehicle outright with the agreement that they would set a buyout figure if the stolen vehicle would show up in the 30 day insurance waiting period. Problem solved. We purchased the vehicle Saturday morning.

At around 1:00 Saturday, KCMO-GT500, Alloy Dave and his wife Terry picked me up at my hotel for lunch. We had a good lunch and it was nice to talk about GT500's with other owners.

While eating, I told them the story about our Navigator being stolen the night before. After lunch, we walked out the front door and less than 10' in front of us sat my stolen SUV. The first thing I did was check that tags and unbelievably, it was my vehicle. I looked inside and trash as well content from the console were thrown all over the interior. The front two seats were reclined and there was pot residue in the ash tray as well as in the cup holders. As Alloy Dave, KCMO-GT500 and I are walking around the vehicle looking for damage, and this 25 year old with baggy pants walked right in front of us, up to the vehicle and starts to open the drivers door. Alloy Dave immediately with two hands lunged forward and slammed the drivers door closed before he could enter the vehicle. Dave started with a barage of questions (that I can't even begin to recall most of them). At the same time, KCMO-GT500 slammed the guy up against the vehicle and let him know he was a federal agent and not to move. All the while, I am trying my best to dial 911 on my cell phone as quickly as possble.

The guy of course claimed he had no idea what we were talking about as we argued with him, he pulled away from the car and took off running down the block. We didn't know if he had a gun or a knife, so we didn't pursue him, rather stayed with the vehicle waiting for the police to arrive.

They arrived about 4 to 5 minutes later. We gave them a complete description and the hunt was on. To date, I don't think they've found anyone, and most likely never will.

After about 30 minutes, a call came over the radio that someone had just turned in a set of Lincoln keys at and upscale store two blocks away. They were thrown in the grass. We brought it to the attention of the officers that they could by my keys since that is the direction the guy ran. They brought the keys to our location, and sure enough, they opened my vehicle right up.

Here is where it gets even more interesting. In the cup holder in my car was another set of keys with an Infiniti logo on it. A female officer pressed the buttons on the key fob and the car parked behind my car started chirping. Unbelievable, another stolen car, parked right behind mine (with the keys in my car) in a very nice shopping district. The Infinity had a smashed up front quarter panel.

Well, if there weren't enough officers on the scene already, several more showed up when they found out they had another stolen vehicle with the same suspect somehow involved in both.

While all of this is going on, Alloy Dave is taking photos of the entire crime scene. He told me that he only has room for 84 photos on his camera and 60 were of my car. Hopefully he can free up some room for photos on the rest of his vacation.

After we finished all of the questions, they actually released my vehicle to us and we decided to go to my hotel a couple blocks away to have a drink and tell this unbelievable story to my wife and kids. From the seventeenth story, we watched the country club plaza Christmas lights being turned on while shaking our heads in amazment as to what had just happened.

I never would have imagined a few friendships created on a web forum would have three people caught up in the middle of a forcible recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Great Story. Great ending.

HSURB

Ruf - this whole thing was really crazy. In all my travel, I've never been involved in anything like a stolen vehicle or any other situation like this. In a metropolitan area the size of greater Kansas City, it is hard to believe it pulled up and was sitting 10' outside the front door of the place the four of us decided to eat lunch at that day.

I forgot to mention that the guy was actually eating at the same place we were and after we confronted him out front by the vehicle (and he ran), the manager ran out of the BBQ place looking for him. The crook stiffed them for a $45.00 lunch tab. I saw the actual ticket on the police clipboard. He had Burnt Ends - Beef/Pork (same thing I had), three glasses of Merlot and one bottle of beer.

By the way, we dropped the recovered the Navigator off at the dealership so we can rework our deal on the new SUV we bought. Which, by the way, has a super charger on it. Can you say WEEEEEEEEEEEEE. 390 HP.

HSURB

now from Alloy Dave:

One small detail HSURB left out. After lunch, but BEFORE we went outside, Tim and I were in the restroom. Some guy was in there peeing, and he started singing in a VERY loud voice..screaming actually...incomprehensible. He walked out and I thought to myself...that guy is high or drunk or both.

5 minutes later we had THAT SAME GUY surrounded at the vehicle...he was the thief!!! banghead.gif banghead.gif

I have pics (not of the perp), but I need to get to my pc to download them....give me until Thursday night when I can post.

Terry1234 and I had a great time on our trip. Every year we attend a Raiders game in a city we've never been to. We've now done this in Oakland, Baltimore, Nashville, and Kansas City. In addition, Friday was my birthday...so Terry and I spent the day in St. Louis on the way...carousing. Luckily it was cold, so no one had to see my legs in shorts. hysterical.gif

I wanted so bad to take that guy down and pin him until the cops got there....but it all happened so fast, and my wife sought cover in the restaurant and was crying when I went in to find her...she was very worried about us.

I'm glad HSURB got his vehicle back, and I enjoyed seeing KCMO again and meeting HSURB and his family...all very nice people. HSURB bought us lunch BEFORE he knew we were going to recover his vehicle. hysterical2.gif . KCMO bought us both a small gift too...very thoughtful of him. I told them I was making a small gift for each of them...but it may take some time for me to get around to it...must wait until the bar ceiling is completed.

Thanks again to KCMO and HSURB for a great day (although a bit nervewracking). happy feet.gif

(little did we imagine what was about to happen)

...Now, what could Thanksgiving 2008 possibly bring to top that?? hmmmmmm........

Did I mention I'm headed to Kansas City next Wednesday night for Thanksgiving.

Oh boy, what will happen this year.

JL, we're moving South away from the Country Club Plaza this year. Crime is just too high there anymore. We're going to be down at the Overland Park Convention Center.

I'll give you a ring next week.

I'm pleased to report that the weekend in KC was uneventful.

Sorry JL, I didn't get you called. Simply ran out of time.

Met this gal at the hotel lobby bar. Must be Mrs. KC.

Dave related this saga to Rick and me. Of course the hands were flying in the air during the description (hands were never separated from the wrists at any time).

The only thing missing were the squirrels protecting the locals from the acorn thieves.

This seems like the appropriate thread for this.

The week before Thanksgiving, I had a friend of the family that lives in Dallas walk out the front door of his house to witness this had happened to his personal vehicle. This was 15' from his front door in an nice neighborhood.

At least they left the jack.

I've seen that happen before, sad but true.

I had a friend once who lived in an apartment and had to park in outside..it was a big place with hundreds of "units". He got his stereo stolen 3 times in 6 months. SO on the 4th one, he superglued 10 razor blades to the underside of it. 3 weeks later he found his car door open with a trail of blood leading 20 feet. He never had an issue again.
