I have been using synthetic brake fluid in my hot rods, supposed to be a little easier on the rubber and just a little more heat resistant. For the Shelby, I'm just sticking with the factory as I dont road the car hard.
+1

I have synthetic fluid in my '69 Camaro. IMO the nicest thing about synthetic is that it is hydrophobic (it doesn't attract water/moisture). What does this mean? It means that if you leave the fluid in the system for 25 years you won't have all these rusty parts like calipers pitted, wheel cylinders leaking, etc. I put mine in the Camaro in 1983....same fluid in there today.

One downside..when you switch over to synthetic (at least the kind I have...they may have invented newer fluids by now), you have to flush the entire system with denatured alcohol. This is quite a job, but it was well worth it for my Camaro since I knew I'd have it a long time. I'll probably just flush/change the Shelby fluid about once every 4-5 years.

4-5 years?

I've already flushed mine twice.

Valvoline Synthetic brake fluid is compatable with most fluids.

Is your Camaro fluid based on silicone?

Yes. I just read a tech article on fluid. Mine is NOT 5.1...so it's not compatible with other fluids.
