I was concerned about that too. There looks like there's an area to the outboard sides of the lower grill that is solid, but to be honest I haven't looked in detail too see what's behind there. I just saw the setup they had on the StangNet project GT500 and it looked viable at first glance. I do also like the look and function of having the brake ducts in the grill. I too have the HIDs and don't like the yellow appearance of the fogs, and rarely even drive the car at night never mind in the fog or rain(never). The StangNet folks used the ights from the Mustang 'Pony Package' found on V6 Mustangs, and fabbed mounts for them in the lower grill. See GT500 Project - The Breakdown - Ford Mustang for details. I also read a thread a while back, don't remember where, on a guy that replaced his fogs with HID type, it may have been Grabber on fordgt500.com, but was kinda pricey and my concern with that is the additional drain on the circuit; these things are dialed in kinda tight when comes to electrical, and the lighting voltage regulator; I know this because I was going to put in turn signal mirrors, and was advised not due to issues it could cause.

What about the idea of cutting the plastic out of the grill on the sides?

In other words, if you look at our GT500 grills, where the angled piece is that's different from the Mustang GT, the grille is "blocked" in the angled area. I don't know whether opening those up would improve airflow or not...not sure if the radiator is directly behind there...but may be worth a look or some type of testing by some ...ahem...enthusiastic person.

Dave I believe Ice is refering to moving the fog lights over to the center in front of the HE inlet and using the fog light holes for the brake ducts. This would most definitly be the wrong thing to do as it will hurt HE efectivness.

The space to the left and right of the HE is the area Ford intended for the brake ducts but they only allowed for a 2-1/2" duct . (there is no radiator behind there )That's why I made my own a full 3" which flow approx 72% more air.
I think this location looks the best on the GT500 anywhere else looks aftermarket and wrong for the car. IMO

For the upper grill I've thought about that. I'm not sure why they chose to close in the areas of the upper grill that they did....other than to make it a pain in the arse to clean. I have thought about trying to cut them out to open them like the center but if I were to do it I would likely have a back up grill for when i screw it up....and i would. Those finer points and things requiring touch and precision are not my strong points. I'm more of the Demo and framing guy to put it into terms you would know well Not the finishing guy

I think that the radiator does not go behind those areas (but this is just off a weak memory) and I think Evolution has holloed them out for the inlets for the twin turbo. Can't recall exactly how it was set up though.

The radiator does not go back behind the blocked off grill. There are also plastic side shrouds that keeps air that enters the grill going through the radiator. You can see them in this picture when I was test fitting my Killer Chiller.

As far as why they are blocked off is concerned... I bet it is because they already have too much air flowing under the hood with the current opening and any more would risk the hood popping even with the vent holes in the hood.

How are the results coming on the Killer Chiller or have you posted on this already?
