Default Opinions on these ceramic pads

I've decided to change out brake pads at my next tire rotation. The OEM's only have 12,000 miles but the brake dust is killing me. Someone on another forum got these and loves them. No dust, squealing or any issues. I know they're not one of the major brands, but I might go try them out.

Go with Porterfield.

I think these ones at Autozone are made in China.

Our OEM pads were designed for feel, stopping power, and give/wear on certain products. The dust is a side effect of the fine balance of all. I agree if you can not live with the dust, swap them out! However, having family in this business, swaping out for dust fixes one issue and will effect one of the others. Just a word to the wise!

i seriosuly doubt their performance is less than OEM just because they emit less dust. im sure much testing was done in comparison. and coupled with the better rotors, for me...work better.

I understand there is no free lunch...less dust means less performance/grip. It's a trade off that I may be able to live with.

I dont think thats true at all, I track my car and I have to say I think they are better than stock, there really is no trade off performance wise. Your pads probably wont last as long as the stock, but thats it.

That's encouraging..I'm just going by my last vehicle. My SRT8 had the same Brembos and I swapped them out for Centric Posi-Quiets. No dust but a little less performance.

Do not compare to Porterfields unless you try them first.

Hawks and Porterfields are in a league of there own.

You'll know if you go to the track w/ those Mintex pads.

..ask Jay.

I also have the Porterfields, but I'd estimate about a 70% dust reduction. I am also unhappy with the large lead-in chamfer they have used, which I think reduces stopping power from what they could achieve otherwise.

Next time I'll try a different brand.

I agree. I also noticed a reduction in stopping power with the Porterfields compared to the stock pads. I also have the Stillen cross drilled and slotted rotors. Don't know if they are a factor or not. I do know that I also will be try something different in the future.

I'll chime in on this one.

Ceramic pads are NOT a performance pad by any stretch. You have a high performance car, my recommendation is to stick with a high performance brake pad. You can expect a minimum of 20% reduction in stopping power by switching to a ceramic pad....probably closer to 30-40% with the ones linked.

Remember that your brakes are a safety item first, and good brakes can potentially save your life. You might not feel that 20-40% reduction in everyday driving but if you need your full stopping power to avoid an accident and don't have it, you're in trouble.

Go with the Porterfield or Mintex pads mentioned in this thread. Less dust than factory AND an upgrade in stopping power. While you're in there, think about upgrading to SS lines and high performance brake fluid (Motul, AP Racing, etc).

I "upgraded" to the Porterfields and noticed a slight DECREASE in stopping power.

Interesting. Which Porterfield pads are you using, and can you describe the slight decrease? What driving conditions, etc.

I have the Porterfield pads and have not noticed any difference in stopping but I did "bed" the pads before using them normally.

That said I did not do any actual distance stopping tests to see how each performed, perhaps Dave did.

OK I may get flamed for this but I took and chance and bought the Autozone ceramics and put them on last week. So far there is no noticable reduction in performance and almost NO dust.
