Bosch has done something similar for a few years now. I guess the idea is to increase the conductive area to get best spark possible.

The idea here is that the 'fire' of the plug will shoot straight down into the mix.


I used Bosch Platinums in an old Bronco of mine and it screwed w/ the electonics...had to change back to regular plugs.

So far the GT500's seem to run the best with the NGK TR6's ....that according to tests done with various types and makes of plugs by Evolution Performance.

I kind of think all those different plugs are just an advertising ploy, I tried a few of them over the years and found no benefit.

This is an engine thread...about spark plugs. I have no experience with these plugs, and my guess is that they would only be valuable at very high cylinder pressures, such as when your running 20+ psi of boost.

My dog hurt her leg. Slipped on our new basement floor. The goat is hurt.

I have the Corsa too and love it, my brother got his used from craigslist but I wanted a valid warranty so I got it here. Corsa Exhaust 14288, or you can try one of the sponsors here on the forum, they are allways having sales/specials. Either way its a great exhaust system, sounds great, and very easy to install.

I like the NGK TR6's

Has anyone heard of the plugs in these 5.4's exploding?
I have a friend who had this happen on his F-150 Lightning. I didnt think much of it until the shop manager where I had my car alignment done mentioned it. Hes said be careful with carbon buildup on the plugs. It can get so bad that it blows the insulation right off of it.

just curious if anyone else has heard of this

I think that was with the 2v heads. Those things (along w/ the 2v mustang heads) were notorious for blowing out. The problem was lack of threads holding them in.

I change my plugs in the Shelby @ every oil change. I've heard they don't last much longer than that w/ spirited driving. For 20 bucks, it's cheap insurance.

i tried them on the other vehicle, regapped for the msd coils, and didnt last long....

Sounds like good idea but I'm not too crazy about pulling plugs out of aluminum heads every 3k miles. Seems like a lot of wear on those soft threads. Probably better to get a set of iridiums IMO.

If properly torqued the thread capacity should really never be exceeded and anti-sieze should prevent any surface material transfer ...in theory, anyway. Probably once a year is adequate since that's probably only a few thousand miles for many folks anyway
