Water Pump is controlled by the ECU. In order to do this you would want to by-pass the relay for the water pump with a 20 AMP Mini Fuse and then wire a switch to the location of your choosing. Wire the switch to the ground leg of the circuit. The white wire with a red stripe is the voltage side. Don't wire it there.

I do not know the specifics of this harness but generally speaking manufactures build a harness as cheap as possible and will use much lighter gauge wiring on the control circuit as it only caries the current needed for the relay coil and carries no working circuit load (i.e. pump motor draw)...that is the whole point of using relays. I would be very concerned about pulling a 20 amp load through control circuit wiring without having someone validate that Ford uses the same guage wiring for both circuits on that relay. The jumper idea is not going to cause any concern at all.

I ran all of this by a "little birdie, former SVT Engineer" and we discussed in detail ampacity and draw. It's all good. We are drawing very little off of the water pump circuit to trigger the relays. It's been reviewed and tested and causes no issues. Thanks for the intuitive question. |
