Last weekend I installed the JLT/Evo Stage II kit. http://jlttruecoldair.com/zencart/in...roducts_id=115
Now, I’m no mechanic. Heck – just changing the oil seems to be a challenge. But a few friends (thanks George and Bill) helped me out – and I found some good instructions from others who did this before. My wife said I was crazy for doing this to “a perfectly good and already fast car,” but I was determined to go ahead with this anyway. I owed it to Shelby to make her the fastest she could be (with my current budget in mind… LOL). Here she is all stock. ![]()

First – gotta remove all the stock stuff. Take off all the connectors and airbox etc so that the stock air intake can come off.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() With the old intake off, you can see the throttle body. ![]() ![]() To make getting to the pulley and belts, I was given the hint to unbolt and move the coolant tank. No need to take off any hoses or remove fluid – just put it to the side. ![]()

Remove the coil covers to get to the coils and spark plugs. You need to change out to cooler plugs whenever adding a smaller pulley for more boost. Make sure to have a LONG socket extender – those plugs are recessed deep!
![]() This little Pain in the Azz caused me more trouble than it should have. Looking at it, I though I needed a deep well socket to loosen that nut holding the cover on. I went to 3 different stores looking for one that would work – none would! Arggggg!!!!! ![]() Finally, I called Bill, who told me the nut and bolt were a one piece unit and to just use a pair of pliers to grab a hold of the tip and loosen it. Shoulda known it was easier than I thought! ![]() Install the new JLT CAI per the instructions in the kit. Takes a little to get everything set so that they fit under the stock strut bar. I had at least ˝ inch clearance after I tightened everything up.

Next, loosen the tension on the pulley belt so that you can take off the belt. I just tucked the belt off to the side.
![]() I borrowed an Evolution pulley puller from a friend (thanks George) to pull off the stock SC pulley. It’s beefy and worked very well. Do NOT skimp on a cheap puller. It’ll make your life very difficult! ![]() ![]() After taking my time, it finally came off. ![]() Then put on the Metco replacement pulley. I went with the 2.6 size for about 3-4 lbs of extra boost. Again – follow the directions that comes with the pulley puller. And make sure you DO NOT put the new pulley too far on the hub. It should be flush with the front of the hub. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once the new piece is on, you just use the included screws to put on the new pulley. ![]()

Then it’s time to put on the Metco idler assembly. This takes up the slack that you get when you move to the smaller pulley. Remove 3 bolts, install the idler using 3 new longer bolts, and you’re done.
![]() ![]() Push down on the tensioner again so you can put the belt back on – make sure that everything is lined up along all the belt path. Don’t want it to self destruct or come off. ![]() Double check all the connections, bolts, belts etc. Then, plug in the SCT tuner and download the new tune. 10 minutes later it was all done. Power increase was substantial and the SC sound was much more pronounced. Overall – a very worthwhile mod. Trust me - if *I* can do it, anyone can.

Thank you for the very thorugh pictorial and writeup on this, it's exactly the kit I want to add to my car, for the one and only engine mod; the winter project. Excellent Joe G, thank you! I'm going to try and rent a puller from my local Mustang speed shop, Excessive Motor Sports in Manassas, VA; a great bunch of guys; but if not, I may borrow George's if he's still lending that fixture out. After the tune and mods, what was the dyno RWHP gain? I've heard alot of numbers thrown around, but it seems like 90-100 would be a reasonable expectation, is that right?
Thanks again for taking the time to prepare and post that.

You know, I never got a chance to re-dyno after the install. Typical gain for this type of mod is 120-140hp easy. 90-100 is only the CAI and tune. If/when you want to do this system, make sure to let me know. We'll get you a good deal on it through the BVM Performance store for sure! ![]() -

![]() Still need to finish getting the rear traction squared away though I think, before I do that, or I'll definitely kill myself. ;) I'll absolutely take you up on that offer on the parts when it's time to buy, thank you!
