JT's FRPP Throttle Body Install

Had some time this morning and installed the FRPP CJ Throttle Body.

Before I started I called Ford Racing and asked if I would need a new tune or would have to re-flash the car after the install.

They said no, but added that it would be 50/50 that I would receive and error code with this TB installed and that installation of this TB on the GT500 was not supported so if you did get an error code, you were on your own and BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!!

Here we go, this was a very basic install and took about 40 Mins.

The car had not been driven for a few days and I started by disconnecting the battery.

One thing I did notice whilst doing this mod was that my COIL Covers are starting to MELT like other Family Members have experienced.




So I will be trying to get these sorted under warranty during the Tranny TSB next week.

















Install New TB and re-install CAI.





All done.

My comments:

I did NOT throw a engine fault code so I guess I was in the right half of the 50/50 BUT, I did throw a TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR Fault Alert which I attribute probably to the battery being disconnect, thankfully I did not have to grab the BIG magnet as the TPM Warning Alert went off on it's own in about 3 minutes.

It is difficult to say how much horsepower and torque this TB added without a DYNO run, but there is a noticeable improvement in throttle response, the car seems to come to alive faster now so I'm also very happy with the bonus eye candy that is now under the hood too.

Great write up JT, thanks. That is pretty sharp looking, let us know if you get a dyno run in and see a difference. The whole 50/50 shot an error code is a little scary. What is the fix if your in the wrong fifty? Is it simply a new tune? Is this something that could be done with a remote tune like from VMP?

Ya, I cleaned it out, it was a mess and so was the back of the stock TB.

Gloves are just habit now, used them for years on my Bikes, mainly for saving skin with the tight spots on bikes, Mechanix Gloves are too thick for Motorcycle work IMO.

I'm also prepared to take an appendix out in the garage.

The code 50/50 code fault tune issue is only applicable to those that have the FRPP Pro Cal tune it's a not issue for aftermarket tunes.

i think he menas the paint on them is bubbling and blistering
it would have to get awful hot to melt metal

I see the bubbles he is talking about. Some of the covers start to bubble up. you have to look real close and then you will see them.

Mine are doing the same thing. I just haven't bothered with them yet.

Fordguy's right here, the covers look to be pained in Grey and then have some clear coat over the grey and the grey base coat is bubbling making a damn mess.

solve that problem and go get them covers powdercoated properly...it did....

even better.......go get a new set under warranty, have those powdercoated and then return to have them swap them out........I have my new set, just haven't sent them out for powdercoating yet.

ok..so besides the TB looks really pretty, what gains or changes can be had with the new TB?
is it worth the price of admission per say?

their replacing because its a defect in manufacturing...they shouldnt be bubbling or blistering...

The car is much more responsive and seems to rev faster, well worth it to me.

If I didn't derive any benefit I would have just returned it.

FRPP have done a great great job with this piece of the CJ.

No part on any car is meant to go sideways @ 8000 miles.

This is simply a manufactures defect, I emailed the same picture to the service manager this afternoon and replacements have been ordered and will be replaced next week, when I'm there for the Tranny TSB. Speaking of Tranny TSB, did you get your car back, how is it?

Test's on a TVS equipped car with the FRPP CJ TB showed a 15rwhp gain over the stock TB . On a stock blower it would be about 10 - 12 rwhp tops .
FYI the BBK made about the same (16rwhp on a TVS equipped car over a stock TB)

Both of these TB's require no tune changes

Nice addition JTB. Comparing the 2 throttle bodies, the CJ part even looks as if it flows better than stock. slightly larger and smoother contours. The piece looks good under the hood and it makes more power...can't beat that !
