From the JLT newsletter I got yesterday.

How To Properly Clean Your Air Filter

JLT uses only the best S&B brand lifetime air filters in all our kits. Follow these easy steps to clean and recharge your air filter.

1) CLEAN FILTER

Clean sealing area of filter and filter housing with a clean soft rag. Shake or lightly tap the filter on a hard surface to remove and loosen large particles and debris. A soft brush may be used to loosen large particles of debris or bugs. Make note of which side the filter has trapped the dirt.

2) SPRAY CLEANER

Use S&B´s Filter Cleaner to clean the filter. Spray cleaner generously over entire object and let soak for 10 minutes.

3) RINSE

Thoroughly rinse the object with regular tap water (avoid high pressure hoses). Flush from the clean side to the dirty side to prevent dirt from entering the filter.

4) APPLY OIL

Always re-oil after the cleaning process. When reoiling a filter, it is critical to place the oil on the side where the dirt will accumulate.

If using oil applicator type kit: Rotate the Squeeze Bottle of Oil with the cap facing downward. Make note of your starting point on the measurement guage to make sure that the proper amount of oil is dispensed. Place a drop of oil on the peak of each pleat where it meets urethane (rubber).
If using aerosol type oil kit: Apply oil along the bottom and along each groove of the filter. Apply only one layer of oil to each groove.

Allow oil to sit for 20-30 minutes then inspect the filter for any white areas where the oil did not cover. Re-oil any dry spots that appear. DO NOT OIL FILTER EXCESSIVELY.

The color of the filter comes from the color oil used to charge it. The cloth element is white. Any of the filter cleaning kits come with a spritz spray bottle of cleaner and the oil, i like the kits that have the aerosol can of oil because you can coeat the filter evenly.

When the filter starts getting dull or dirty, just take it off, spray it with the cleaner, let it soak, then rinse it with warm water and all the oil and dirt wash away, I then blow it dry with shop air. Once its dry, you simply spray an even coat of oil (what ever color you want) on the element. I dont drinch it in oil, I just apply several even coats until it is completely covered and the right color.

I also have 2 filters so I can just swap it out, then take my time cleaning it.

one other note, you can add just a little bleach in some water if the blue oil stains the element, the bleach will make it stark white again.

hope this helps...

Default Re: Replacement Filter for a FRPP CAI in red

I'm confused,

The blue filter that came with my FRPP CAI didn't come with any oil and I believe that it is a non oiled filter. Can someone confirm this?

The filter from S & B Filters is an oil type filter. This sounds messy, Is it?
Is this a better filter than the dry type?

have you read/heard/know about anyone actually doing a dyno comparison with the standard frpp filter (capped ended) against the s&b style (same sized) open ended filter? i wonder if there is enough additional airflow to require a tweak to the tune?

That would be an interesting test BEEKAY, the other difference is the FRPP is a non-oiled filter too.
