Thanks for the extra sources....my first oil change the only option was the dealer and I paid through the nose...I think if I remember right it was $107 for the oil and the racing filter...pre-tax

I thought the Mobil-1 doesn't meet the Ford -B spec. Ford specifically changed from the -A to a new -B spec based on what they learned on the F-GT (or so I've read) so, if not a big cost diff, I'd go for the -B spec. -lol.

I am not sure what you mean by -A and -B...what are the SAE specs these refer to?

Mobil 1 5W-50 meets or exceeds the following industry
specifications:
ACEA A3,B3,B4
API SM,SL,CF

The 5w50 oils on the market can have 2 specs. The -A was the first one, and was approved for the FGT (GT40) engines.

Our engines are spec'd to use the -B. I remember reading a bunch on the differences a while ago, but can't find it now.

I don't think Mobil-1 5W50 meets the Ford WSS-M2C931-B spec -- it's more than SAE and weights ...it includes specific additive groups and reduced levels of other byproducts. Only if it says "Meets Ford WSS-M2C931-B" on the label are sure it does and was tested to that spec, imo.

I was told by a Ford tech that it does ...but it doesn't say so on the label so I'm skeptical. A fellow on another forum also says it does but that it just hasn't been certed ...dunno.

I use Castrol because it is easy to get and cheap. I change my oil much more frequent than needed so I'm not worried about the 'a' or 'b' thing.

There is hardly any breakdown in the oil when I change it and the filter....about every 3,000 miles or before and after track time and dyno time which ever comes first.

...for sure ...I even change it every 3000 on my old Taurus and Ranger.
