Default 1 Piece DS & Pinion Angle

For those who have lowered their cars and added the 1 piece DS did you have to adjust the pinion angle?

I have the FRPP handling pak and am going to install the 3.5" aluminum DS from Evolution (Dynatech I believe).

Thanks,

My car is lowered, it changes the pinion angle a miniscule amount. If you go with the DSS it comes with a new pinion flange that you have to install into the rear end. Then readjust the pre - load in the differential. From what I was told this is a great set up, some people have been having problems with noise and premature wear from not installing a new pinion flange. That is why DSS now includes them with there kits. Call them and they'll answer any questions you have.

Rags why do you say to "readjust the pinion preload"? This should have nothing to do with a DS change.

The pinion flange needs to be replaced with the DSS, I watched the guy at my shop do it, he broke down the rear end pulled the axles and put everything back together.

Ok I can see why now. Thanks. I believe gchaser1 is going with the Dynatech 3.5 so this does not apply in his case.

I have the Dynatech 3.5"DS and did not have to change the flange just bolt up the adapter plate and then the DS . No problems at all with mine.

Yeah, apparently DSS was having noise issues. So they made up new pinion flanges with their new DS.

Thanks,
Sorry I didn't answer you question on pinion angle. You should check the pinon angle after the car is lowered and the new DS is installed.
Most have set the pinion angle to a -2* if you find yours anywhere from -1.5 to -2.5 you should be fine otherwise you will need to make an adjustment.

and it needs to be adjusted with suspension loaded and car level...drive on lift works, or as in my case i used blocks under all four tires.

Thanks for the information. Have those of you with the Dynatech had issues with noise or vibration?

Also, adjusting the pinion angle requires an adjustable UCA or adjustable LCA's or both?

You may notice a small increase in NHV with the one piece DS over the two piece I did.

I used an adjustable UCA on mine.

Thanks, you folks are the best! Hopefully the install goes well. The DS should arrive this week with a low profile FRPP axle girdle.

I finally got the time to install the 3.5" Dynatech DS with front and rear BMR safety loops. The car runs very smooth and noticeably less noise than the stock DS. The pinion angle came in at -3 with stock UCA and FRPP suspension. However, on the first hard launch in first at about 5k rpm, there were noises coming from the rear of the car. Got off the throttle and noises went away. I got back underneath the car and noticed the DS had rubbed up against the top of the rear safety loop. Removed the rear safety loop and no problems with launching. I don't believe the rear loop is necessary, but just thought since it would all be apart, I would go ahead and install it anyway. We've put about 300 miles with the new DS, and I love it. Thanks Birdman, gr8snkbite, and Rags for your input. It is appreciated.
Gerry

I have the same set up and have had no problem w/ anything rubbing?

I would think the combination of both loops helps to keep it away from bouncing around the gas tanks, etc.

I still have the 2pc stock DS
I have the Steeda adjustable UCA and lowered. With the UCA all the way in I get right at -2 degree pinion angle
