BVM Performance/FRPP M-7210-B KR Shifter Install

This kit is designed for use on the 2007-2008 SVT Mustang.

Please feel free to use this thread in conjunction with the Ford Racing Instruction Sheet.

Remove gear shift Knob and boot







Using a 13MM socket, remove the upper gearshift lever bolts





Lift vehicle......



Mark driveshaft to transmission flange orientation for reassembly, and remove the 4 driveshaft flange bolts using a 12MM socket and breaker bar.





Remove the 4 subframe cross brace bolts using a 15MM socket.





Remove the 4 exhaust bolts using a 15MM socket and separate exhaust.




Note: driver side exhaust separation required an extra step, as it did not separate enough initially. At the rear of the vehicle, we had to remove the 2 supports shown below.

Support the transmission using a padded jack.




Remove the 4 rear transmission mount outer bolts using an 18MM socket shown at the top of this photo.




Lower the transmission to access the shifter and remove the 2 gearshift lever nuts shown in red at the top on photo. NOTE: the driver side nut has a clip that must be removed carefully by walking it down the slowly. This is not noted in FRPP's Instruction sheet.





Remove gearshift lever assembly by inserting a pick into the lower hole to unlock the clip, rotating the gearshift lever retainers, and removing the retainers. (Ford Instruction sheet shows better detail on page 3)




Remove lower gearshift bolt. NOTE: This bolt must have sufficient locktite applied when reassembling. Failure to do so may result in your gear shift lever failing while driving.





Remove gearshift assembly.

Reuse bracket shown below on new shifter. Bracket only fits one way.



New shifter (right) shown next to stock shifter (left).



Installation is the reverse of this process and took less than 40 minutes. Having done this once, I am sure this entire install could be completed in 1 to 2 hours with the correct tools prepped and by using a lift rather than jack stands. The finished product looks identical to stock. This was my first experiece of any kind working on a vehicle (or at least taking photos of Carnut's helper working). My comfort level after watching this has increased 10 fold. I look forward to addid a short throw shifter to my GT500 in the future.

NOTE: Use LockTight on all bolts during insallation

TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS according to Ford:
Upper gearshift lever bolts 35 Nm (26 lb.-ft.)
Driveshaft flange bolts 103 Nm (76 lb.-ft.)
Transmission outer mount bolts 63 Nm (46 lb.-ft.)
Lower gearshift lever bolt 40 Nm (30 lb.-ft.)
Sub frame cross brace bolts 48 Nm (35 lb.-ft.)

Our write up really only points to some of the variables encountered during the process. Moving forward, further details will be added now that I have a basic understanding of the documentation process.

Also a pretty important item to not overlook is to also use threadlocker on the 4 driveshaft bolts.

Using a torque wrench on the shift lever bolt to transmission and on the 4 driveshaft is mandatory. Vibration could loosen either of these without the lock tight and the proper torque.

Frankly you should use a torque wrench on all bolted connections.:trouble-1:

My shifter was installed by the dealer when they replaced my tranny.

I told him to locktight everything.

I was a mile from my house 3 weeks later when my shifter bolt came out and I was in first gear.

It was a long ride home.
