I believe it is OEM on the 2010 GT500 , which also has the rest of the 08-09 KR underpinnings, (suspension and exhaust )

Yea, but even with all that, I still do not care for the 2010 body style or interior changes. Funny thing, but you either love the look or hate it, I hate it. I am SO glad I got mine when I did. Ours look meaner, more muscular and less Jap like than the 2010. Personal taste, but not for me.

As for the shifter, I agree with all, this is a must have, more so if you can get it installed for free. My ONLY hesitation is some claiming of noise??? I hate noise... and still trying to figure out why some have it and some don't? Is it sloppy installation? And if you do get the noise, can it be corrected without dropping the whole assembly again?

There is always going to be some noise from these transmissions because of the straight cut gears they have (BTW which makes them stronger). The OEM and the KR shifter both have some dampeming features built into them that other shifters don't.(this is good) One difference between the OEM and the KR as far as dampening is concerned is the actual shifter handle itself. The OEM has some rubber cushioning in the knob where the ball does not.

So if I go FRPP/KR and keep the original knob (which I was going to) the noise is no different, correct? So no worries!!!

Yes that should be the case. However I just remembered ,the OEM stalk (stick) also has a piece of rubber where it bolts to the transmission , I'm not certain if the KR stalk also uses a piece of rubber at that point but I suspect it does. This also helps dampening vibrations.

Good to know. I have a feeling (other can chime in) that the FRPP setup should be as close to the stock setup, other than the minor changes, thus would think they would use the same engineering logic and have the same dampening characteristics.

Thanks for all the input.

The kr shifter handle doesn't have the piece of rubber like the stock handle does... Although I did not notice any noise increase when I switched just the handles a few months ago and still no noise with the recent shifter change

I drove the KR and the stick is short throw and well damped. The trade off for performance is nearly always taking away luxury and increasing noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). Us gear heads like the feel of the road. There are many variables between solid mounted components and damped to the point you get zero NVH in the interior of your car... its nice to be able to adjust to indiviual preference. These cars are great platforms to play with until you find the right combonation for yourself.

Agree, however for the less gear headed guys, I don't want to have to drop the trans to fix a vibration noise LOL. I like all the performance mods, but do not want to add a noise or vibration issue to the car. I know it sounds stupid, but having owned a 69 Boss 302 I now what all the power and styling cues but without the harshness. I have a feeling this will be near stock, or negligible, so once I get my answer from the dealer, I am sure I will add this!

Thanks!

You shouldn't have any noise issues with the OEM shifter handle, which is encased in rubber at the base where it bolts onto the shifter mechanism. The Ford Racing handle bolts metal-to-metal to the shifter, which tends to transfer a buzzing noise in the cabin in certain gears and RPMs. It's a characteristic of the handle, not the shifter - the noise was there with the OEM shifter and the KR shifter with the FR handle. I'm okay with the noise now as it is a compromise for having the firm shift feel that the FR handle offers.

You can see the differences between the OEM and FR shifter handle in the pictures in the first post within this thread:

Understood, so if I do NOT replace the handle and only have the dealer install the FRPP shifter (which I think both are sold separate), then you will get all the performance underneath and everything within the cabin stays the same! Nice shifting, no vibration or noise!

That is what what I would expect - the rubber at the base of the OEM handle should damp out the noise just like it does for the OEM shifter. The FR handle does not come with the shifter.

A rubber block will dampen the NVH real well... the density of the block can tune it until the vibes are nearly un-detectable or at least it will not respond until higher RPM's. It is all in how much you want to play around with it.

Whatever. If they screw something up, they'll be doing it again and adding in the 3.73's for my pain and suffering.
