Partially right here...MC

Basically, you have to have a very good dealer that you have a relationship with if you want this to go smoothly.

Your best scenario is to make sure when your spending your money on mods, make sure you spend a bit at your dealer and throw some install labor their way too.

That way, they are going to be a little more motivated to authorize the repair, which in Canada at least, is still authorized by the service manager or a senior tech.

I'm sure if MC is correct with his synopsis that if you show up to a dealer that doesn't know you from "ADAM" and ask for it the TSB will probably have issues with a modded vehicle. They may even try to get "Brownie Points" from Ford and tell them that this modded vehicle showed up for a TSB and we "caught it for you" and didn't authorize the TSB and saved you money.

IMO, an established relationship with a dealer will yield dividends.

One of the things I do with all my dealers I use for Motorbikes or cars is I get to know a Tech and schedule him to do the work on my vehicles so he gets to know you and the car. If I pick up my vehicles late in the afternoon I'll show up with Pizzas or Coffee for all every once in a while, I drop off my old Modified Fords and MotorBike magazines too, they love that stuff and at Christmas time I look after guys with small gifts cards. I find most techs are shit on all the time, show them some love, they'll treat your car like their own. A little kindness and recognition goes a long way. When it is a late Friday afternoon and there is not enough time to finish all the cars or bikes I know I'm getting mine back and it will be done right.

Got a call today May 1st to bring my car in MAY 11th, 2009 for the "inspection".

Joe, the service manager, I know, told me that on my car the inspection will me a formality so be prepared to leave my car for up to four days.

He also told me that there are currently 2 GT 500 in the shop now for the TSB and one is due in next week hence my time slot being May 11th.

Well after reading all this I am concerned indeed. I am going to respond to my dealer telling him I have issues, and see if he just orders the parts. He services my F150 and Jag as well, so may see that as added value. Will repond on Monday and update!

I was surprised that the original TSB specifically stated that it applied to cars with minor modifications. We must have had a friend writing the TSB.

well...any mods done really had no bearing on the problem...it was a design defect. but guess Ford is using it to justify not doing them anymore, and saving themselves money, at the expense of the consumer now..which is BS.

Thanks MC, I think I'll be one of the lucky ones as you are totally correct that the new TSB criteria for this tranny issue will lead to repairs being denied so Ford can save $$.

And I was thinking Ford are just trying to miigate what could be an extraordinarily expensive undertaking to repair all the effected cars.

How many 07 and 08 verts and coupes total? Just under 20000? It is also clear that it is a matter of "when" not "if" this repair is needed.

I'm no expert but at face value if you include, delivery logistics, parts costs and labor costs this TSB has to be 4K per car.

$4000 x 20000 is $80,000,000. Wow!

That's a big nut for a struggling car co.

true...it is much to swallow...but the consumer would be happy, and a life long. im curious what the cost diff is between getting the tsb and getting a new tranny, much like i and others did. i would assume the tsb would cost more (based on more labor) to tear into the tranny, vice swapping it out..

my first repair was 6300.00 with a new trany my second, just a new clutch and flywheel was 3400.

Funny thing, when I asked if they could install the FRPP/KR short throw shifter, they stated that since they do not "remove" the OEM shifter, just detach it from the trans, that they may have a slight charge to install it? I told them, for the 10 minutes it may take, fine, I will pay it. But we will see. For now, I just want the "parts are in, come on down" call.

I guess it all really boils down to the dealer.......my guy asked me if I wanted them to install the shifter even before i mentioned. All told, $120 to swap out all 4 rotors and they put in my hpipe and the shifter for nothing. Rodeo Ford in Plano, good stuff......plus they detailed my car in and out......

Wow, they took care of you. I am new to town and just formed a relationship with the locl Ford dealer. He did my first oil change, and installed my CAI and tune for next to nothing, so he has been pretty cool. When I told him I wanted to isntall the FRPP shifter, he asked me where I was getting it, when I told him here, he said he would match the price if I bought from him. No disrespect to BVM, as I bought all my other stuff here, but I figure if I buy it from him, he will more than likely not charge me to install, and all things being equal, I may as well toss him a bone for the sigh unseen TSB repair soon to come. Hope it all works out~ Hope yours turns out 100% as well.

Not a bad thing to keep them happy when they're gonna be doing some big work to your car. We'll let you get away with it this one time.........but if it happens again.............well, you'll be meeting JD in person!!!
