I think there are 3 tabs each.

To not bend up the insulator I would remove the push pins to reveal at least half of the insulator or take the insulator off...not a big deal.

The insualator is like a headliner, if you get a crease in it, it won't come out.


One of the tabs is accessible through a hole under the hood.

That could be interesting. With some of the stuff I've seen done, I'm not sure why it couldn't, but I can't say for sure that it could either.

Grill would be interesting. Looks like a lot of work though, unless this process is the same as when they wrap a car sorta like heat shrink.

If you haven't gone to the hydrographics website, it describes the process. Seems really neat and I am hoping to tag along just to see how it is done. It seems that it doesn't matter the size/shape of the object. Essentially, the "image" floats on top of the water and the object is dipped into the water and the image wraps and adheres to the item. With the grille, the only part I think might be a bit difficult to do all the way around would be on the sides where the honeycomb doesn't go through. Anyone have part numbers for the grilles? If they're not ridiculously expensive, I'd be willing to get a set and see if Will can get them done.

according to the manual, only the lower grill is listed separately (p/n 17B814). Guess the upper comes as part of the bumper. Maybe someone else can pinpoint.

All parts of the front bumper assembly come separate. Dave it's not a no, but it's not a definite yes either.

im sure they do. just the upper isn't listed that way in the manual.

What is hydro-Graphics?



Hydro-Graphics is a process than can decorate any kind of hard-surfaced, non-porous part, such as plastic or metal, and make it look like a variety of finishes, such as wood grains, carbon fibers, or brushed aluminums in various colors.



How does it work?



We take the part in question, and spray it in the desired base color (for rosewood, reddish-brown, for carbon fiber, black). The pattern itself, whatever the pattern may be (straight-grained or burled wood, carbon fiber, brushed aluminum) is printed on a thin, water-soluble film. We cut a piece of the film that will be big enough to envelope the part in question, then lay the film on the surface of water floating in a specialized stainless steel tank. A chemical is sprayed on the film that dissolves the film, leaving just the ink pattern floating on the surface of the water. Then the part is dipped in the water slowly, and it picks up the pattern, much like an Easter egg. The last step is to spray a high gloss clear coat on the part to give it depth and shine.



You are left with a part that looks like it came from the factory in a wood grain, carbon fiber, or whatever finish you choose. The appreciable thickness is added to the part. There is no film to peel off. This is the same process used by the OEMs right now to achieve the wood grain and carbon fiber finishes in their vehicles (think Lincoln Navigator, Ford Super Duty Lariat trucks).
