Default changed oil and new frpp filter. But ticking noise still there

Ok so I did as all advised and had the oil changed and the frpp filter... Still a consistent ticking noise coming from the engine... Is this normal? Is it something I need to be worried about ?? What else can it be? Is there anything that can be done? Do I need to do anything about it? Any advice...

I'd take it in for service. Sounds like something in the valve train.

I can hear it but can't tell if it is a metal on metal sound or maybe a clicking like a belt hitting something???? How long have you heard it? I might give a tuner a call as they see so many sometimes they know about things like this even when not tune related. I am a Lund fan and he knows A LOT about the cars. Very helpful too as is Justin at VMP. I'd personally probably start there because Jon knows my car so well but given he's not local I'd likely end up at the shop with a person that knows more about engines than myself.

Definitely a ticking.... Had the sound for a while... When I googled it I came up with the gt500. Vert review where the magazine pointed out the ticking noise of the new gt500. Also came up with posts on a tsb on the 4.6 engines of the mustangs... I don't know to the dealership tomorrow.. I am sure they will try and blame pulley etc.. But being I am friends with owner that won't be an issue

do you have headers? If not likely not an exhaust leak as I don't think a bomb could break those heavy stock manifolds.

Chef:
I've got the same noise. What it sounds like to me is a lifter ticking...definately metal on metal. I noticed it after driving the car really hard one time recently. Mine seem to come and go but the most recent time, it has stayed. I'm going to run mine over to the dealership on Friday and I'll let you know what they say. Please do the same if you take yours in.

lash adjusters in these cars? Oil level is good I assume but if the pump is going then that could be an issue.......I tend to lean toward the valve train based on tick tick tick that I can hear but I don't know enough about the valve train to suggest anything other than old time things like a lfiter/spring issue but I think these crs have the lash adjusters that could also be something to look at from what I have been able to read. Maybe Dan or George or one of the other smart guys know more about the make up of the valve train and can share insight

edit - there are lash adjusters....this could be a point to look at.

SLC
SLC,

I know you recently changed to an aftermarket oil filter. I remember warning you about this. Hopefully that did not cause it.

If I were you...I would do this test:

Change the aftermarket K&N filter to a Ford filter and see if it fixs your problem.

If I rember correctly.....the problem was not present prior to you putting the K&N filter on.

Just a thought.

The lash adjusters are hydraulically opperated. That is ,they are pumped up by oil pressure. It is possible that one is sticking or particially collapsed and leaving excessive clearence causing a tick. This is sometimes temporary and may clear itself. If not it will most likely have to be replaced if this is indeed determined to be the problem. (they have been know to be an issue on older 5.4 engines ,I would hope that the GT500 uses a higher quality lash adjuster)

Note : there are 32 of these on our engines....
