Agreed... I doubt I will ever see this issue. Not in the rain ever, and has only see a water wash once, and besides, in the desert?? no way! LOL Go luck.

I did find a use for the OEM radio antenna though. I fed some shop towels into the housing & used the ball end of the antenna to mop up the rest of the water drops. ` |

This happened to me and even worse the headlamp itself exploded!
Yes Exploded...the good news is it stayed contained inside the headlight assembly. It was fully covered under warranty.

I did some searching around & the only way I've found to effectively dry out the inside of the head light housing is with silica gel packets (desiccant packets). They are in food products, electrical products, shoes, etc. There wasn't a real good way to silicone the bulb into the socket, but my OEM bulb had a neoprene gasket that compressed itself into the socket just behind the attachment tabs. The HID bulb is completely different in design than the halogens. The halogen is a pressurized bulb, the HID is a think glass tube that is not as highly pressurized, so I'm not to worried about the bulb exploding. I've got a 3 day weekend this week, so the front end is coming off again, the head light housing out & the desiccant packs in. Hopefully Sunday afternoon, it'll be all dried out. Since this only happened when I upgraded to the latest HIDs in January, I truly belive that is a seal issue on the bulb.

Yes it is, but because some of the silicone decided to adhere really well, this is the path. Removing it doesn't take that long (15-20 min). It'll take longer for the housing to dry out. The pisser of it was that I needed to take off my head light tint to properly see inside the housing. The upside is that the head lights are hugely brighter at night (duh) AND no one has flashed their hi-beams at me. Not sure if I'll re-tint them or not.

Makes me re-think putting the HID's in now.

No issues with my first set. The company I was working with exchanged my 4 ballast system for a 2 ballast system, so this is my second set of HIDs. Like I said, I'm 99% sure that the gasket around the base of the bulb is the issue. Also, one of my OEM bulbs had a neoprene gasket (1/4" thick in addition to the standard gasket).
The other option is the OEM HIDs from Ford if they're available for your car. ` |
