Hood Unlatched while Driving

So I was out enjoying the afternoon driving around town in the Shelby when I hear a pop. Then I see that the hood had unlatched by itself and was raised slightly open. Of course it caught on the hand release hook, but kind of scary that it would just unlatch by itself.

Anyone else experience this?

Never heard such a thing.

Must be out of adjustment or I wonder if your release inside the car didn't retract all the way back.

Just guessing, I don't have a clue.

you didn't catch the release handle with your knee? Do you have hood struts? I have read where some experienced this with hood struts

My knees are not near the latch handle when I drive, and yes I do have hood struts.

Not really your knee more like a pant leg thingy... I forgot where I read some had the issue with hood struts

Not on the Shelby, but yes.

It happens when you don't quit close the hood hard enough. The latch only partially engages.

I take it TG's opens often then?

Mine did it one time when leaving one of the local mod shops. I make sure I personally shut my hood before leaving any place from now own.

I was thinking the same. I'll try not to be so gentle next time and give the hood a light tug to be sure it's properly latched. Thanks.

I haven't heard of the hood actually unlatching however I have noticed my hood wobbles on the center latch at higher speeds. I have the Steeda hood struts but do not see where they contribute to this instability. I was thinking this was the reason for the after market L/R hood pins. I also noticed the 2010 snout is redesigned to reduce airflow from impacting the leading edge of the hood all together.

All of these Mustangs, no matter if they are V-6 or Shelby or anythinig in between have the hood shake at higher speeds. My old GT did it and I put in some hood pins to solve the problem. I refuse to put in any pins on the Shelby. I haven't heard of any hoods flying open yet. That was a real big issue when the S197 first came out. Everyone was complaining about the hood shake.

even my proglass hood does it...and its designed different, flows air better and is 10lbs heavier than stock..

Do you guys remember a thread that modified the latch by adding latch points where hood pins would go. Not visible with the hood closed.

I believe snack attack tried them but it didn't work too well for his hood. I don't recall anyone else trying them after him.
