My first car was a 96 ford ranger. Was good on gas and only bought it for $3700. I fliped the thing like 3 times and got out with out a scrach. I say go with a small truck like a ranger there fairly cheap.

I've had a focus,milan,charger,mariner,and several f-150's so my take on those is the milan/fusion if you get a car like that don't get the 4 cylinder they are horrible cars in my opinion...Too large for the motor the 6 cylinders are nice though...The mariner/escape is a nice vehicle but I wouldn't buy the 4 cylinder too much car for the motor IMO and doesn't save but a couple miles to the gallon compared to a 6 cylinder...I help build 500 of them a night...They are best in class in almost every category...The focus I had was a nice car and roomy for the size of it...Great on gas and extremely quiet and smooth...Had I not gotten a shelby mustang I would have kept the focus...If I had a daughter in florida(no snow) I would look for a 2 door focus or escape...Hope this helps some...
