We figured they'd been tracked, but the car was delivered in Feb 2007. The fluids (except for oil which was nasty) were all clean. Brake fluid was clean, rear end was cleanest I'd seen. I did connect with a guy at the Mexico Cobra guys that will be in touch soon. My checking says I got a car at pretty much retail - as was my cutoff on the bid. I sort of "stole it" but my assessment is: It's not a collector car - I got a fair deal at about $10-$20K under replacement cost. Between this and Steve Becker's red one with a real 427 "old stock" 427 with dual quads, I think I broke even. I'm in no way disappointed. Co-pilot and I went to Longmont today. She wants to learn how to drive it. The clutch is stiff. With 550HP and 535TQ it's a pretty stiff shift. Oh, and it took 11qts of 10/30. The Roush guy said 7.5. It didn't even touch the bottom of the dipstick. It is now running better than it did when I got it. I still think it has a rev liomiter at 4K though. WOrking...

4" tubes. The 289's were 3", but most of the new 289's use 4" too. I saw a pic on one of the Cobra sites of the naked body - just a frame - and it looked like a go cart. Believe me. The outside shell is for show only. If "a bad thing happens", this is not a survivor car. The passenger side has a 5-point Simpson belt. I have a lap belt on the driver side. Today I checked out the roll bar on my side. It''s real - it went all the way down to the tube frame. Carnut - First, you gotta get your GT back in service and then we have to meet at the Gateway Museum this summer and trade rides. We'll go out with the rest of the GTs and Ferraris on the mountain backroads. It'll be a hoot.

Of most interest was the date code on the tranny. We couldn't see the tag because it was at the wrong angle and we were going to get a beer and didn't have a mirror.
Like I said, I think I got a "good" deal. I am in no way disappointed. Co pilot and I went to get some pictures framed today in Longmont and took the Cobra. We were inside the place and two people came in asking about the Cobra "yeah, it's mine but I'm busy". After two of them were out there - one that has one that he bought at a place in Nebraska that I think I remember - and he said it was the best body he'd ever seen. Both of started reciting the Cosby 200MPH routine! It was a hoot! I plan on driving it like I stole it. Really, it's not a museum piece but it is fun. A Ford GT or a Superformance GT40 were on the list but I got this for less. Not disappointed at all.

Looks like a beauty underneath.
Glad you're still happy with the buy - I know I would be. -
