I called around yesterday to a bunch Cobra dealers (Shelby, Backdraft and Superformance) and none of them had any cables and all of them basically said that they hadn't built any new cars for over a year!!! One referred me to his speed shop that installs their engine. He pawed around on some of his engines to see if he had one but didn't (they were other Fuel Injection systems, not Roush but they all have the same center throttle arrangement). I sent him a picture and then he said the light clicked. "Oh yeah, now I remember. For the Roush on the Cobras we use a go-kart throttle cable and cut the other end off". Bingo. There are tons of $5 or less cables that have the barrel on one end and a ball on the other. Now that I know what I'm looking for I should be able to find one locally. The bike shops don't open until 9:00.

Go Kart parts are absolutely the right track (pun intended). I drove to a nearby kart track at lunch and found two kart throttle cables. One was preassembled with a lead barrell end that is about the right diameter but not quite as long, and the cable itself is a little stiffer than the one I had. I also got parts - a piece of 4' cable (which is a littl emore flexible) and a solder-on brass end that is a little taller. I'll still be on the lookout for one like I have (I'll mic it when I find one at work) but these should get me back on the air for my final emissions test before my temp plate expires on Friday.

Emissions victory!
Yesterday I reran the Roush throttle body calibration process one more time and this time everything converged quickly. [It may be iterative and need 3 or 4 times to actually get full convergence although they don't say that.] Part of this process is to set idle at 1000RPM.
So yesterday I spoke with the emissions exception gods at the State of Colorado and he suggestedsetting the idle from 1000RPM to as close to but below the limit of 1350RPM. I chose 1250-1300 from the software (not the mechanical tach). Guess what! It Passed!  The tech guy at the state said that this is pretty close to perfect and that any tweeks I do will now be in the 10% range but not 1/2 again. So I'm done. I may still take it to a tuner for a final "tune" but the basic mechanical and electrical problems that came with engine have been overcome. This software has a "real time dynamic tune" wizard and I may run it just to see what it does. Like any tuner it's easy to put stuff back.

Well, it's running great now. The advice from the guy at Roush was to get the oil changed again since the extermely rich condition was dumping stuff back into the oil - we'd already observed that at the ~700 mile change (just after I got it home and decided that dumping every liquid was appropriate).
So the speedo is off too. I'd checked the speedo gear caluclator and I need a 19 tooth driven gear. I found them on line for ~$20 including shipping.... So today I called the local Ford dealer. Yep, we got one, is it Pink or Tan? (Yep, Pink, 19 tooth manual transmission).... $3.84 + Tax = $4.15. So I need an oil change too based on the rich mix and blow back. My mechanic friend doesn't keep real 10/30 in stock so I went to the local farm supply place. They didn't have 10/30 in 5 gallon containers so I got 5x1Gal. $13.99 ea. (It takes 10 qts (=2.5 Gal) We'll dod the gear and oil Friday.
