Oh, yeah ...forgot about that stuff ...MystiChrome! Some loved it and some hated it but it sure showed up form subtleties nicely. It was one of those colors that looked better in person than in pics.

I've heard Nissan is working an a color-changing paint now. Ford had one in development in the late 50s/early-60s, if I recall, but it never made production and I've often tried to find anything on it on the internet ...I often wonder what happened to that. As a kid I use to "send-away" (lol) for new car pics (and airplance pics!) every year ...and Ford talked about a experimental paint where you could just dial in your car-color to match your clothes, etc and that they'd developed a technology that looked promising ...never to be heard of again. ...oh, well.

It always intrigued me, especially since electrochromics (if that's what they wre doing - dunno) were like star-wars back then. I've even searched in the Ford picture archives when I had access but nada. I'm guessing it just wasn't practical ...either tech or cost.

There was one of those Mustangs at Evo last month. Blue-purple-green-black & it depended on light & angle. I tried to take a couple pictures, but they didn't do it justice.

It's true My car was painted with a pearl base added and the bumper got a small scratch on it,(I'm anal about things like that) we touched it up hoping that when it dries the match would "match"......... Nope! Had to redo whole bumper

I like the mytic chrome better than the plain mystic. When they are done right, they just look great.

Having had a good friend back in MI who owns a body shop for high end cars. He told me those paints are impossible to blend for small scratches or dents and at a minimum you have to paint a complete panel. Even at that, a good eye will see the difference as there is no real way to mix the exact same formula all the time. So word of caution, also, watch your insurance rates!!! Some will charge extra if you select those paints as a simple paint job or repair could cost in the thousands and they know it!
