I was talking to Birdie tonight about the quality of Mufflers on the market. He said the Corsa's are very good and that with an H-pipe they will sound about the same as the Ford racing muffler...just not as loud. Untill Birdies Muffler is out...I will run the Corsas to check out the sound. |

school me..how is the H pipe different from X pipe? Love my Corsa's, and are still on stock pipes, but sound great and no drone.

lol 6-speed.
![]() Here's my current X pipe. ![]() All we will have to do to install the H pipe is make 2 cuts in the pipe at the front side of the X. Look at the back connections of the stock X pipe. The Ford factory couplers just slide over the top of a butt joint, so no cut is required at the back side. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here is what a factory KR H pipe looks like: ![]() So, Like I said, we will just have to take the rear coupler clamps off our car and have some temp wire to support the 2 rear pipes in place. Then hold the new H pipe peice up in place with the back touching the butt joint. Then mark the front of our existing pipes with a marking pen. Then we need to take a straight edge and mark the pipe. Then take a sawzall with a metal cutting blade and cut out our existing X pipe. Then the new H-Pipe will just clamp right back in with the 2 existing rear clamps and 2 new ones provided with the kit. Easy Peasy.

I think this H-pipe has something stuck in it's throat ;-) ...That sound clip sure sounds awesome!!! Prolly will give up a few ponies to the X-pipe tho.-- Grabber, Windows Media Player plays that clip just fine ...the latest version has a lot of nice features too for ripping mp3s, etc.

This is going to be a very clean installation. You will have to make sure that you install the H pipe top side up because a slight angle is being fabricated into the piece to make a perfect fit. You have to look at the new H pipe at a side view to notice the angle. I can tell you that Birdie is coaching the fabricator on the details of the angle.
I can't wait to see the piece. |

Is this the 'birdie' we know?

I don't think it increases backpressure per se as much as an H does not cross-scavenge like an X does. Dunno how much diff but I'd s.w.a.g. it in the vicinity of 5-8HP maybe? Others may have a better feel for that. Minimal crossover would seem to have been done primarily for the sound ...which sure is sweet!

Rob why do you want to go with the 'H' pipe ? Is it just for the different sound ? The KR mufflers alone will give great sound ( better than a stock GT500) without sacrificing the power that changing to an 'H' pipe would do.
IMO...Money would be better spent changing the factory cats to some ' Hi-flow " cats, then adding the KR mufflers. Then you would have more power & a great sound.
