I was out cruising around too - I'm surprised at how quiet they are (from inside the car) at idle and while cruising around at 2000 RPM and less ... that is until you stomp on the gas.

Hey guys, after getting a price for $90 for Ford to install, I will be doing these myself. That said, I tried to shoehorn under the car, just to tight, so I have the option of borrowing either a set of plastic car ramps, to which I would probably have a hard time backing up on, or using a hydraulic lift and stands. I am leaning toward the lift, so I wondered if I placed the jack under the rear differential, and stands at the axle near the tires, is that the best/correct way to go about it???

Most people do it that way but there are actually "lift points" (2) on each side of the car on the frame rails ,one forward and one rearward on the rails. They are marked with a slot into the bottom of the rail about 2 inches long . That's where you should put the hydraulic jack then put the jack stands under the axle tube. That's what I do.

I seen that done, but it seems you have to lift so much higher to get the wheels off the ground, as the frame has play in it with shocks as such. When you use the rear end, it is automatically coming off the ground! But in either case, doing it my way (using the pig, and bracing under the axle), will be ok?

I think so just put a thick rag between the jack and the pumpkin before jacking.

Good suggestion, and between the jacks as well? Never thought of that... I used to work at a service station, years ago when they actually did customer service LOL, like in the 70's, and that was the only way we jacked cars up for anything tire related and so forth, so I figured it was a safe way to do it, and easy as well.

Thanks for all the input!

That is to keep the scratches to a minimum on our rusted rears.

Ok guys, here is an update to this thread! I JUST installed my KR mufflers. The good news is, without this thread I would have struggled as I did not realize you needed to remove all the hanger braces, and logic may not have kicked in. Bad news is, the thread was correct in that on SOME cars (maybe the 08's) the front bracket on the driver side does have THREE bolts not TWO. And worse yet, it is near impossible to get at the third one, or at least with my tools and my monster size hands. SOOOO, in order to remove that original muffler, remove the rear bracket as instructed, and remove the two bolts you can get to on the front bracket. I then loosed the muffler and I had to basically muscle the muffler out of the front hanger by pushing down and forward on the muffler until I got enough clearance to remove it. It took some work, but I did manage to get it off. I then removed the complete bracket and installed as normal. There is MUCH more room to work while getting the new ones on.

So, the big test, fired it up and oh yea.... sounded great, but of course as luck would have it, today is only the SECOND day I ever got rain in Nevada, so I could not take it for a ride.

That said, and hoping my little update helps, I wanted to thank everyone who commented and posted on this thread. Sure I would have gotten it done without, but I am sure I would have spent a lot more time, energy, swearing and bloody knuckles doing it! So thanks!

Did you use a ratcheting box-end wrench as suggested?

Congratulations, you've finally completed your KR muffler journey! I recall exchanging posts with you with regards to these mufflers on TS when a limited number leaked out to the public. Now I hope you like them - I certainly do.

Thanks, and yes, it was a long journey indeed. As for the box-end wrenches, NOOOOOO, when I moved I gave a bunch of stuff away, and a lot of dulpicate tools, I could have sworn I had a set, but after having the car on stands, and not finding them, I did with what I had. Not to bad, but they would have made a couple turns much easier for sure!

I ended up loosen the exhaust at the x pipe and at the muffler and did a little push twist and shove. It is close enough now that I am going to leave it.

Cool Re: KR Muffler Polishing and Installation

Just installed my KR's tonight. Great instructions made it an easy task. I would have never thought to polish the mufflers but they looked a lot better. They also sound a lot better. I also installed the JLT CAI and tune. I can't wait until tomorrow when I can go out and open her up.
