Fender Stripe Layout

[GRABBER]

Here are the dimensions I used to install the fender stripes on my wifes GT/CS. If you like the look I suggest you take a piece of Blue painters tape and stretch it out on your table.


Put a starting mark on it like this.



Then measure out 17-3/8 " and put another mark on it. That is the mark for the start of the fender stripe. Also put a mark at 20-1/8" for the Center of the 1 inch space that goes between the 2 stripes.



This will leave you a piece of layout tape like this.



Then take the piece of tape and put it on your car. Make sure the first mark is at the start of the fender by the headlight like this.



Lay the tape out on the top of the fender to give you the fender stripe locations like this.



To lay out the location of the bottom of the stripes I plumbed straight up from the center of the rim and put a mark on the tape in the following location on the fender crease.





This pic shows the top lay out and the bottom lay out.



I suggest you then use a piece of 1 inch painters tape and apply it to your car fender that will represent the center space (the 1 inch gap space). Then lay your stripe to that leading edge of your tape. Apply one stripe at a time and go very slow and rub the stripe as you go with a wet finger. If your finger is wet it will provide lubrication for your finger to slide on the stripe easily. Go slow and you will not have any bubbles. Rub your finger constantly on the stripe as you go to prevent bubbles.




Here's the finished product.












....oh ya, it looks good on a GT500 too.

I don't get it either? What is is supposed to mean/symbolize or is it just a look?

I don't get it for the SGT or GT500 or any other car. I don't mind it but just don't understand the point of it.

I think that looks pretty cool actually, when it was black it did nothing for me but after he changed it to white I have come to like the look I'm considering it. My stripes aren't vinyl so not so easy to get her done

Norm,

Put the vinyl on and run with it for a little while to see if you like it. If not, just peel it off.

They are driver identification stripes, also know as Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) stripes. In the 1960's the GT350s and other multicar teams would put different colored stripes on their cars so that at a quick glance the pit crews could distinguish which car was pitting (they couldn't always see the numbers). So, if you track your car (not drag racing) it does have meaning and legacy.

Good point but it was hell getting the other vinyl off...My stripes have a pearl base in them do they make it with that color or close to it?Almost like escalade pearl white

Cool - I thought it had to mean something with all th people getting into it. I like the look better when there are other stickers on the car too (numbers, aftermarket co's., etc) but I can see why people would want them on there with that as a background. The only stickers I have on mine are the LSR stickers in the 1/4 windows which I likely will take off after Shelbyfest and store until next year at shelbyfest time.

I went to our local sign shop that specializes in putting sign decals on Trucks and vans. They have a computer that will priint the stripes on any color 3m material that they had in stock. I brought a color sample of my white stripe in and matched it up as best I could with what they had in there stock.

I suggest you do the same.

So what you are saying is you have too many cars that you need stripes to tell them apart?

Just order one of your rocker panel stripes from the Ford Dealer and cut what you need, then you'll have your match.
