Years ago, when I was an auto mechanic, I had a dilemma. I worked late on Friday nights, and wanted to go out with my buddies after work to pick up girls. Problem was, I did brake and front end work, which was very greasy. It seemed no matter how well I washed my hands, I had black dirt around my fingernails...a big turn off for most girls.
Then I found that NAPA carried this stuff called Glove Cote (not sure if they carry it anymore). It was a cream in a tub, that you'd apply to your hands BEFORE you started working on anything. It was water soluble, and would creep it's way into your skin and cuticles. Then, when you washed with soap and water, your hands would be nearly spotless!
I used it for years, then lost track of it since I didn't need it.
I've found it again...see the link below. Evidently they now make two versions, one for solvent-based applications and one for water-based, which is the one I used. It was great stuff back 20+ years ago...I assume it's still good stuff.
