Heat Exchangers

I know that not all heat exchangers are created equally but I was looking around for one that will do the job for my purposes. I don't track the car or drag race it. I use it for my enjoyment of just driving and having a little fun from time to time. Before I take the next step on my super charger, it is recommended that I upgrade the heat exchanger. I have been looking around and found that there are three of them out there.

1. Afco - $450
2. Fluidyne - $378.50 through RPM Outlet
3. Shelby - $750

Which one would you recommend and why? I was leaning towards the Fluidyne and adding a 160 degree thermostat.

If you look at the info Van posted about the C&R/Shelby HE w/ the dual puller fans it was light years ahead of the others.

Pricey? Yes - but you get what you pay for.




Oh, and don't forget you can get the Afco, Shelby or Steeda through the BVM Store.

there is also the Steeda
i have put on both the Steeda and the Afco, and i perfer to install the Afco
but, i do not know about the Fluidyne unit
and i am adding the 180 thermostat this week



i have the steeda on my car, the Afco was not out yet when i did mine and it really does make a diff in the temps, a couple weeks ago at the races my car was running 20 deg cooler than another car there
and we ran the piss out of them



And our store BVM can get any of them and is very competitive, plus your supporting ourselves

I've heard horror stories about RPM Outlet and would advise not to buy from them.

not to knockoff potential sales, but I have seen used AFCOs (from those upgrading to the Shelby one) running in the 250 range.

I went with the C&R units. I think the quality is top notch and the ability to keep things cool even in city driving on hot days with the fans is very big in my book. It was 105 here yesterday and the car pulled very hard in those temps.

Plus the fans sound freaking awesome!

except i had only had my steeda for 6 months

based on your info VD...either of two possibilities..

C&R/Shelby...as said pricey but worth every penny....or the cheaper route

just get Vans intercooler tank, keep the stock HE and change to 160 stat...

stocker with his tank actually ran cooler than the AFCO...his words, his datalogging..you'll have to discuss further with him for numbers and more details...

Purchased my C & R from Van earlier this week. I tried last week but he was too busy driving at Shelby Mid America to sell me one (I'm extremely jealous) . Before I made my decision I had a discussion with some automotive engineers (very smart people) where I work and they felt that based on the data provided that the C & R HE would be the best performer.

Loving my C&R HE and radiator. I ran 8 laps of autocross on an 80+ degree day, and the tempt gauge never moved and I felt no loss of power. All around me guys were overheating and I was cool as a cucumber.

I love my C&R/Shelby HE. Definitely the most expensive of the group, but well worth the extra dough IMO.
